Girl with a Pearl Earring

This, Girl with a Pearl Earring, is the most famous painting from the
Dutch painter, Johannes Vermeer. This painting was made in 1665, so this
painting can be categorized in Dutch Golden Period era. Girl with a Pearl
Earring was originally titled Girl with a Turban and the name was finally
changed in the mid of twentieth century. The girl in this painting is believed to be
Vermeer's eldest daughter, Maria, who was about twelve or thirteen-years-old at the time it was
created.
Not like Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci, this painting is more simple. The painting has
a bright-looking aura of an innocent Dutch girl while Mona Lisa has a mysterious, Italian lady.
The other difference is the background. The background of this painting is just black while Mona
Lisa has a foggy view behind her. Vermeer colored the background in black in order to sharpen
the pearl earring because the earring is the point of view of this magnificent painting.
I was really captivated by this painting. I love the simplicity of this painting. The dress
and the colors are just calming. A young girl dressed in old-time Dutch fashion with turban on
her head, is completely depict an ordinary Dutch girl. With her liquid eyes, this painting has
attracted so many viewers around the globe.
