Working as a medical scribe requires more than background medical
knowledge. It requires diligence, determination, hard work, and above all a desire
to succeed. I would know this because I have been working as a medical scribe for
the past 5 months. During my time as a scribe, I have accumulated a vast knowledge
of how to properly document patient information. Under Dr. Jeremy Crisp, my core
interest in medicine has been strengthened and well-backed

Ever since I was a child I have had the desire to concretely help change other
peoples lives. I have always wanted to use my hands in my career and truly make a
difference in someones life. This desire was strengthened the summer after my
freshmen year of college. Unfortunately, I found myself at Cape Regional Medical
Center with a fractured T-7 vertebra and in the need of multiple sutures on both my
face and neck. It was a horrifying experience. The only thing that kept my
experience positive was the emergency room staff. Physicians and nurses alike
treated me with unwavering kindness and we truly developed amiable rapport.
These relationships urged me to become active as quickly as I possibly could in
health care.

The summer after my accident I was greeted with the opportunity to become
an emergency room technician in the same emergency room that I had found myself
in just one year ago. It was in this trauma bay that I developed the necessary patient
interaction skills that are key to proper interaction with patients. Faced with
traumatic situations every day, I discovered within myself the self-confidence and
understanding of basic medical procedures that I needed to succeed. Working as
both medical scribe and emergency room technician alike has allowed me to grow
as an individual and succeed as a future physician.
Sincerely,

Thomas Thornton
