PROJECT 1: Centre & State Budgetary Allocation

Project Guidelines:
(1) The Union Budget 2015 16 marks the beginning of co-operative federalism and

empowerment of the states.

Justify the above statement by:
(a) Highlighting the importance of a budget especially in the context of a country like
India where there are regional disparities.
(b) With reference to another developing county, mention any one way the central
government there has helped reduce regional disparities.

(c) Using a flow chart depict the two parts in which the budget is classified viz. Revenue
Budget and Capital Budget.
(d) Highlight any two areas (e.g. education, healthcare, employment generation
programmes, irrigation projects etc) which the Union Budget (2015 16) has
allocated funds towards in any of the states of the Indian Union.
(2) The drought situation in Maharashtra.
(a) Argue that to a large extent the drought situation in some parts of Maharashtra is
man-made. (You could include: Crops cultivated, irrigation projects, government
policy, any other relevant material.)
