About This Document

Overview
This document describes how to configure EasyRET2.0 antennas for SRAN8.0 base stations.
It applies to Huawei BTS3900 V100R008C00 and later versions, providing guidance for field
engineers to configure EasyRET2.0 antennas.
The SRAN8.0 software version integrates software versions of single-mode GSM base
transceiver stations (GBTSs), NodeBs, and eNodeBs. The following table describes the
relationship between the SRAN version and base station versions.
SRAN Version

Single-mode Base Station Version

SRAN8.0: BTS3900
V100R008C00

Configuration Overview

2.1 EasyRET2.0 Antenna Configuration Preparation

Processes for antenna configuration differ depending on whether antennas are installed for the
first time.

2.1.1 Installing the Antenna for the First Time

Step 1 Ensure that equipment hardware has been installed.
Step 2 Fill the installation recording form.

To install antennas in cascading mode, fill the installation recording form delivered with the
antennas, as shown in Figure 2-1, and submit the form to the network administrator. Then, the
network administrator can add RET antennas according to the form.

You do not need to fill the form if you do not install antennas in cascading mode.

2 Configuration Overview

2.1.2 Replacing the AIMM

Step 1 Before AIMM replacement, record the original downtilt of the antenna and fill the installation
recording form in the AIMM installation guide delivered with the AIMM, as shown in Figure
2-4.
Step 2 Install a new AIMM.
The relationship between antennas and AIMMs must comply with that described in Table 1-1.

Step 3 Fill other information in the installation recording form.

To upgrade an MET2.0 antenna to an EasyRET2.0 antenna, or replace the AIMM of a single- or

dual-band EasyRET2.0 antenna, fill the installation recording form shown in Figure 2-4, and
configure the antenna based on the serial number (SN) specified in the form.

You can skip this step if you replace the AIMM of a tri- or multi-band EasyRET2.0 antenna.

You can check the end face appearance of an antenna to determine whether it is an EasyRET2.0
antenna or whether it needs to be replaced by an EasyRET2.0 antenna. On the RET module of the
EasyRET1.0 antenna, the end face has round angles and two or no bolts. While on the RET module
of the new EasyRET2.0 or MET2.0 antenna, the end face is square and has four removable bolts.

3 Typical Configuration

Control port cabinet No., Control port subrack No., and Control port slot No. can be acquired
by scanning, please refer to section3.3 Scanning the RET Antennas. In general installation scenario,
the Control port should be R0A port or RET port of RRU.

Device name is user-defined and must be unique in the system.

RET type can be SINGLE_RET or MULTI_RET.

SINGLE_RET indicates a RET device that only control one RCU.

MULTI_RET indicates a RET device that can control multiple RCUs.
Polar type can be SINGLE or DUAL.
SNGLE indicates that the configured RET antenna is a single-polarization antenna DUAL indicates
a dual-polarization antenna

Antenna scenario is configured based on actual physical conditions. In terms of an RET antenna
with a single external RCU, select REGULAR. In terms of an RET antenna with multiple daisy
chain external RCUs, select DAISY_CHAIN. In terms of a single-band RET antenna with a single
integrated RCU, select REGULAR. In terms of a multi-band RET antenna with integrated RCUs,
select DAISY_CHAIN.

The Vendor code and Serial No. can be scanned. For details, see section 3.3 "Scanning the RET
Antennas." When you add an RET antenna in a common installation scenario, the vendor code and
serial No. can be scanned automatically. In the daisy-chain scenario, the vendor code and serial No.

Step 3 Press F9 or click Exec.

If Operation succeeded is displayed in the command export area, the RET antenna is added
successfully, Can be waiting for 1 minute to perform the operation 3.6 Querying the Downtilt
of the RET Antenna to confirm the results. If the RET antenna fails to be added, find related
causes and add the RET antenna again.
Performing Step 1 to Step 3 can complete one RCU added. If multiple RCU SNs are scanned
(including the external RCUs and integrated RCUs), you need to repeat Step 1 to Step 3 to achieve
all RCUs added.

3.5 Setting the Downtilt of the RET Antenna

Link setup between an eNodeB and an RET antenna requires 2 to 3 minutes. Therefore, set
the downtilt 2 to 3 minutes after the smart antenna is added. The antenna must be in
calibration mode before its downtilt can be set.
You can set the downtilt of an RET antenna by running the MOD RETSUBUNIT or MOD
RETTILT command. The MOD RETSUBUNIT command can also be used to set the
subunit. This section uses the MOD RETSUBUNIT command as an example to describe
how to set the downlink of a smart antenna.

4 Other Application Scenarios of EasyRET2.0 Antennas

Other Application Scenarios of

EasyRET2.0 Antennas

4.1 RET Antenna Configuration in Dual-eNodeB

Scenarios
In dual-eNodeB scenarios, perform the following steps using related commands to configure
RET antennas on each eNodeB:
Step 1 Turning on the Power Supply Switch to the RET Antenna
Step 2 Querying the Operating Status of the RET Antenna
Step 3 Scanning the RET Antennas
Step 4 Adding an RET Antenna
Step 5 Setting the Downtilt of the RET Antenna
Step 6 Querying the Downtilt of the RET Antenna

CAUTION
In dual-NodeB scenarios, the time-consuming commands, such as loading software,
calibrating antenna, setting the downtilt, are not supported operating on both NodeBs at the
same time. If these commands executed simultaneously on both NodeBs, the NodeB which
sends command latter may fail or returns "busy". In this case, wait 2 minutes and then run the
commands again.
The following uses a quad-band antenna with four RCU SNs as an example to describe
precautions during RET antenna scanning. Two eNodeBs are represented by eNodeB A and
eNodeB B.
1

If the RET antenna with integrated RCUs is not configured, the SNs of all integrated
RCUs can be scanned with Configure Status set to UNCONFIGURED on both
eNodeBs.
Figure 4-1 shows the SCN ALD command output on eNodeB A or eNodeB B. Four SNs
can be scanned.

After all SNs are used to configure the RET antenna with integrated RCUs, only the SNs
used on an eNodeB can be scanned on the eNodeB.
For example, if two SNs are used to configure the RET antenna on eNodeB A and the
other two on eNodeB B by running the ADD ALD command, then only the two SNs
used on eNodeB A can be scanned on eNodeB A.

4 Other Application Scenarios of EasyRET2.0 Antennas

For detailed operations in Step 1 and Step 2, see the related AIMM installation guide.

The following figure (AIMM installation recording form) shows the relationship between the band
and the AIMM SN after the single-band antenna is upgraded.

After the dual-band is upgraded, the relationship between the band and the RET SN is as follows:
Place the top side of the antenna up and face the end where the RET module is located. Then, read
the bands in an ascending order. If the bands are the same, read the bands from the left to the right
or from top down. Match the bands with the last digit of the AIMM SNs.
For example, as shown in the following figure (AIMM installation recording form), the SN whose
last digit is 1 corresponds to a low band and the SN whose last digit is 2 corresponds to a high
band.

4.3.2 Replacing the AIMM for a Single- or Dual-Band EasyRET2.0

Antenna
Single-or dual-band antennas do not have backplanes to store antenna-related information,
such as configuration data, antenna models, bands, and RET SNs. Therefore, after a pluggable
AIMM is installed, perform the following steps to input all RET information.

Procedure
Step 1 Record the downtilt of the original antenna by pulling the ruler and reading the scale or by
running the command LST RETSUNBUNIT on the LMT
Step 2 Record the relationship between the RET SN and antenna band.

Antenna
Tri- or multi-band MET2.0 antennas have backplanes to store antenna-related information,
such as configuration data, antenna models, and bands. Therefore, no configuration data needs
to be loaded. After a MET2.0 antenna is upgraded to an EasyRET2.0 antenna, perform the
following step on the network management system (NMS) to configure the RET module and
calibrate and set the downtilt:
Step 1 Record the downtilt of the original antenna by reading the scale on the ruler.
Step 2 Record the antenna band and RET SN on the antenna nameplate. Ensure that the antenna band
matches the RET SN.
Step 3 Perform configurations by referring to sections 3.1 "Turning on the Power Supply Switch to
the RET Antenna" to 3.4 "Adding an RET Antenna"
Step 4 After upgrade, load antenna configuration data and calibrate the antenna by referring to
sections A.1.1 "Loading RET Antenna Configuration Data" and A.1.2 "Calibrating the RET

4 Other Application Scenarios of EasyRET2.0 Antennas

During AIMM installation, AIMM information is recorded on an installation recording form

delivered with the AIMM installation guide, as shown in the following figure.

4.3.4 Replacing the AIMM for a Multi-Band EasyRET2.0 Antenna

Tri- or multi-band EasyRET2.0 antennas have backplanes to store antenna-related information,
such as configuration data, antenna models, and bands.
When the RET module is to be changed, the RET SN and antenna information remain
unchanged. Therefore, the RET module does not need to be configured and no configuration
data needs to be loaded on the NMS.
During AIMM installation, calibration and angle adjustment are required when the motor is faulty and
the AIMM needs to be replaced.

The RET module can be directly replaced, which is convenient and reflects the advantage of
the EasyRET2.0 antenna.

A.3 Color Coding Standard

The following describes the method of representing the band features:
According to the AISG Color Coding Standard, different colors are used to represent the color
rings of the antenna port based on its band features. The upper band edge of the antenna port
is represented in red, green, blue, and yellow in sequence from the low band to the high band,
which describes the mapping between the colors and the upper band edges of the antenna port.
In terms of a multi-band antenna, if the upper band edges of at least two antenna ports are in
the same range, digits or repeateds letters can be used to represent the color coding. If digits
are used, the digit 1 needs to be used to represent the color coding when only one color exists.
Table A-1 Mapping between the colors and the upper band edge of the antenna port

Yellow (y)

The following describes the method of representing the port location:

Use L, C, R, T, M, and B to represent the positions of arrays related to the antenna ports. For
details, see Table A-1 and Table A-2.
