Cultural intelligence is focusing on ones perception of cultures rather

than focusing on their differences. When people are not culturally intelligent
they are affected by bias against differences in other cultures. With cultural
intelligence, people can be more introspective and think about their own
cultures, noting how this affects their perception of other cultures. I can
explain cultural intelligence best as better understanding oneself and others
by analyzing ones own culture and perceptions of others cultures. It is
understanding your instinctual perceptions of others cultures.
Cultural identity is which cultures and groups one identifies with.
Cultural identity is often based on where and how one is raised.
Cultural lenses are whatever outside factors affects ones perception of
others and the culture of others. These can be social stereotypes, taboos,
judgements, and profiles.
2.
Cultural identities are constructed from ones perception of reality and
relative to how others compare to oneself. One receives information from the
world on what one is and is not, and identifies oneself based on what one
feels most aligned with. This self-constructed image is formed from pieces of
labels picked up from the world. Therefore, ones relationships with groups
and cultures has a strong effect on cultural identity, making it relational as
well.

Page 5: I agree with the Kohls. As an American I was raised to these
values so I see all four of them as basic American values. These are naturally
what I believe in as an American.
Page 7: I am myself around mostly everyone I know so I do not know of
a hidden identity that would surprise anyone. However, one of the examples
given about having concern for others is something I relate to so perhaps
that can be a hidden identity.
Page 8: One aspect of my cultural identity is believing in God. This
would be more important if I were helping a friend make a hard decision, but
less important if I am working on a project with a team of engineers.
Page 12: This may have to do with cultural lenses of the providers.
Maybe the providers have some sort of stereotype that poor patients, Blacks
and Hispanics do not understand health-care as well as others.
Page 15: My ethnicity is not a choice I have made because I did not
choose how I was raised. I do choose to continue to live how I was raised
because I perceive it as the best way for me to live.
Page 15: My self-image is always growing and changing, so I view my
ethnicity differently than five years ago. Every day experiences change how I

view my ethnicity, and I am typically very open minded to change potentially

leading to improvement.
