What to Do When Your iPhone Wont Connect to

Wi-Fi
Well the good news is, if you are reading this on your device youve managed to get an internet
connection from somewhere, even if its not your iPhone. Its unfortunate, but many iPhone users
experience problems connecting their iPhone to a Wi-Fi connection after upgrading to iOS 7. The
funny thing is, others experience connectivity issues after skipping an iOS update!
If youre iPhone wont connect to Wi-Fi and the Wi-Fi button in your Settings appears to be
greyed out and unresponsive, your problem may be an overheated Wi-Fi chip.
There are a number of tips and tricks you can try to get your iPhone to connect to Wi-Fi.
However before you start drilling your way down the list, check and see if other devices are
connecting. This way you can determine whether there is a problem with your Wi-Fi router.
(If the router is the problem, try switching it off along with your iPhone for 30 seconds. Then
turn them both back on and see if the phone connects to the Wi-Fi. If it doesnt, read on!)
Here is a list of Enigmas top tips, ranging from the fairly simple to, the more complex iPhone
Wi-Fi fixes. After each step try and connect your phone again. If it still wont connect to the WiFi, move on to the next step.

Restart your iPhone

Hold the sleep/wake button on the top of your phone down until you see the option to slide to
power off. Now drag the slider to turn off.

Airplane Mode off.

Go to Settings, make sure the Airplane Mode is switched off.
If this hasnt done the trick, we recommend that, you perform an iTunes
backup of your data before you go any further, just to be safe.

Forget Network
Go to Settings, General, Wi-Fi, select your Wi-Fi and choose Forget this Network. Now try
finding the Wi-Fi connection again from scratch.

Reset iPhone
Hold the Sleep/Wake button as well as the Home button down for about 10 seconds, or until you
see the Apple logo appear.

Update iOS Software

Check to see if you have upgraded your iPhone to the latest software setting. Go to Settings,
General and select Software Update. At this point, if your iPhone still wont connect to Wi-Fi
you must be getting pretty frustrated. Perhaps it will help to know that were all rooting for you.
Keep going!

Reset Network Settings

Go to Settings, and ensure that, Airplane Mode is off. Then open General, Reset and select Reset
Network Settings. (Its important to know that the iPhone will now remove all saved Wi-Fi
passwords, Bluetooth pairing records, VPN and APN settings).

Reset All Settings

Go to Settings, General, Reset and select Reset All Settings. (Please note that if you Reset All
Settings on your iPhone, you will not lose any apps but your app settings will be removed).

WILD CARD
No luck? You may want to try this last tip but be warned itis a Wild Card. Why is it a Wild
Card? Because it involves purposely over heating your iPhone and sticking it in the freezer
afterwards!
This tip has worked for a lot of iPhone users with iPhone Wi-Fi connectivity problems. However
others have strayed away from this method for fear of damaging the internal components of the
iPhone. The choice it entirely yours, if youre in for taking a risk proceed:

Blow-dry?Freeze
Run a blow-dryer over your iPhone for about a minute or until you see a message saying your
iPhone is over heated. Then turn the phone off, place in a freezer bag and leave it in the freezer
for about 10 minutes. *Please note there is a chance this method may cause potential damage to
your phone.
If your iPhone still wont connect to Wi-Fi contact Apple Support Services directly and see what
they can do.
Have these tips helped you? Do you have any more tips to add? Please let us know below.

I left home yesterday, my iPhone worked on my grandpas WiFi, I come home,
and now it wont connect to my home WiFi, when theres never been an issue
before.
It can find the WiFi, and it will ask me for the WiFi password, and I put it in, but it
continues to just spin like its trying to connect but never does.

Ive reset the phone, reset the network settings, unplugged my WiFi router,
everything.

Hey Kayla. I have exactly the same problem like you described above.
Left home, iPhone worked fine on a friends wifi, back home and it just
wont connect back to home network. Network visible, tries to connect but
the circle just keeps spinning. Tried all the above methods but still cant
get it to work.
Wondering if you somehow managed to get yours working again.
Just got my new 5s 4 days ago.
So disappointed.

Hi Carol,
If youve tried the tips in the article, try connecting your iPhone to a
different WiFi network in a different location. If the phone does connect
youll need to get assistance with your WiFi router. If you have trouble
connecting your phone there as well youll have to contact Apple.

Reset Network Settings NO, Reboot Router NO, Update to latest IOS NO,
Reboot iPhone NO, Stand on one foot NO. Here is the fix you have been
waiting for: Log into your wifi router and disable WMM Power Save. I have been
able to recreate the problem again and again. Turn WMM Power Save on and
same old iPhone wifi problems. Disable it and viola. its been a long road but its

its not a problem with my internet because I am using it right now on my

go on any apps that need the internet. I have tried resetting my phone settings so
that they all go back to default and I have tried to restore it on iTunes but it wont
let me because I have to turn off find my iPhone but it wont let me because to
connect to icloud on my phone to turn it off, you need the internet, which of
course my phone doesnt have.
i have also tried to disconnect my phone from icloud on my computer like it says
on the internet but it still doesnt seem to turn it off. i cant use 3g because its ran
out and i cant even erase everything off my phone because it needs permission
from icloud, which i thought i had disconnected from on my iPhone but obviously
not, but to get permission you have to type in your password, which i do, and you
need internet!!!!

Hello,
my iPhone 4 is struggling with conncecting to wifi since recently (1-2 weeks).

I do get connected for most of the time, but then all of a sudden it will stop
working for a few hours.
The wifi symbol still shows up when I try to connect
and it will show my phone as connected to the wifi for the whole time trying,
but it wont actually work for longer than a few seconds.
I tried your solutions so far (everything besides the wild card scared of that
one) and usually one will work;
for about a day and then its back to the beginning.
I honestly dont want to do all the resetting over and over again,
because Im afraid it might damage my phone at some point.
Do you have any other suggestions for this case?
Thanks in advance,
Sarah

I have had similar problems and after rebooting, and trying nearly everything I
chose Other network and manually typed in the details, even though the phone
could see the network. This brought up the security type and I was able to select
WPA, as per the router instructions. After then typing in the password (which on
the iPhone was case sensitive for some reason, it finally connected.

Mines an iphone4.
It now only connects when in the same room as the router. And wont connect to
or even display any public networks. Wont connect at work either.
Very tedious.
Have tried all suggestions aside from removing the back and tightening the
antenna screw. May give that a go but it seems unlikely.
Have done the freezer job with no success. I only gave it 10mins. Have seen
some advice suggesting 30-60mins. Will try combining it with the hair dryer
technique. Failing that I may try flushing it down the toilet.

and I have even tested other peoples wifi. Its just my phone that has the
problem.

Hello,
So recently (2 weeks) I found out while I was browsing Instagram, (classy, I
know) my internet seemed slow. I checked my wifi just in case, then I stumbled
that disconnected. (note: i dont have cellular data) so I tried re connecting it and
it couldnt connect. This has happened to me before so I left it alone.

It connected 5 minutes later and so I was okay. Then it stopped connecting. I

went to the control center and it was greyed out. I went to the settings and the
wifi slide box is white. I couldnt slide it. I am unfortantly unable to connect to wifi
anymore.

The heating and cooling method worked for me as well but after a while the wifi
turned of again and would not turn back on (grayscale). So basically be prepared
to have to do the heating and cooling method again later on

Ive been having battery heating problems for a long while now and my phones
wifi has been horrible and when in use its been heating up and cutting off and
would restart and freeze for hours until the battery would die. Until the wifi finally
stopped working completely and after a couple days and a reset finally went gray.
I followed your freezer trick after trying all the others and it worked!!! Thank you
so much for your help.
