CANDLELIGHT WRAP

by
Kay Hopkins
Candlelight and lace.a timeless and beautiful combination! This is a great intro to lace knitting and a
fun design to make and to wear in several versatile options. Stunning candlelight lacework surrounded
by single flame borders makes a very classy accessory indeed. Instructions are included for making it
long or short, joined as a quick-knit Infinity cowl and with options for edging at the ends in either seed
stitch or a matching flame border.
This versatile Candlelight design offers endless possibilities for wear: wrap it around your shoulders for
an elegant accessory or for warmth on a romantic walk along the beach or wrap it around your neck a
couple of times for a cushy scarf. Both sides of the pattern are very attractive so make one shorter and
seam it for an eternity scarf or cowl.
Complete written and charted instructions are included for both sides of the reversible stitch pattern so
that you may choose which side will be your topside stitch pattern. Both sides are beautiful!
Please accept this invitation to join Kay Hopkins Designs Group on Ravelry. I look forward to a long
knitting friendship!

PATTERN NOTES

Charts are located at the end of the pattern instructions.

Adjust cast on by 20 sts for a more narrow or wider scarf or wrap.
Odd numbered rows are Right Side.
The main Candlelight stitch pattern is reversible. Choose either the Embossed Side (traditionally
considered the RS of the Candlelight Stitch) or the Puffed Side (as shown in sample photos) to be your topside stitch and work the instructions and charts accordingly. The Edge or Border patterns will be the same
for either choice.

INSTRUCTIONS
Choose either style option 1 or 2 but not both:
1. Infinity scarf with joined ends or to work Flame border on ends:
Provisionally cast on 115 stitches.
2. Open scarf/wrap with seed stitch borders on each end:
Cast on 115 stitches and work 4 rows of seed stitch (k1, p1).

Main Body Section

Note: for the Candlelight pattern, choose either the Embossed or Puffed version and follow the charts or written
instructions for that version.
Work Rows to establish pattern:
Rows 1 (RS) of Right Edge, pm, Candlelight (5 repeats), pm, and Left Edge.
Rows 2 (WS) of Left Edge, Candlelight, and Right Edge.
Continue to work in pattern:
Next odd row (RS) of Right Edge, Candlelight (5 repeats), and Left Edge.
Next even row (WS) of Left Edge, Candlelight, and Right Edge.
Continue in pattern until wrap is desired length, ending after row 36 of the Candlelight Pattern.

Ending Border Section work same for both Embossed and Puffed Flame versions.
If choose to work border at ends of wrap: Proceed to the Optional Flame Border Section.
If choose to join as Infinity scarf: Join using Kitchener stitch or 3 Needle Bindoff.
If choose to finish with seed stitch ends: Work 4 rows of seed stitch (k1, p1) and bind off.
Optional Flame Border Section:
Set Up Row (WS): Bind off 3 sts, pm, backwards loop cast on 7 sts. Turn work.
RIGHT EDGE BORDER REPEAT:
Row 1 (RS): Work next odd number row of Right Edge Border, sm, k3tog joining last st on border
and next 2 sts from body (i.e., Joining decrease). Turn work.
Row 2 (WS): Move yarn to back and slip 1st st as if to purl, sm, work next even numbered row of
Right Edge Border.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until have worked all 18 rows of the Right Edge Border.
On all RS rows, when get to marker where cast on of new stitches started, sm, then k2tog
last border stitch with next stitch from main body, effectively joining new border onto main
body. Turn knitting, move yarn to back and slip 1st st as if to purl the joined stitch. Work
all 18 rows of the Right Edge Border Repeat in this manner, joining all RS rows onto the
main body.

Work 5 more sets of the Right Edge Border Repeat.

Last row: knit all, joining at body same as in Row 1.
Bind off border sts and remaining body stitches.
Repeat Flame Border Section at opposite (beginning) end of wrap.

Finishing
Block well to open up and show off the lace work.
Weave in ends and wear it proudly!
