THINKING POINTS

CONTEXT

6th grade of primary education

English subject (as a foreign language)
Competences Linguistic competence in a foreign language (writing)

Objectives
Analyze an image
Write an essay (critical thinking)

TEACHER

Write an essay
answering the
following question:
What do you think this
image is trying to say?
Remember to give
your own opinion.

STUDENTS

Wow! That imatge

is so cool, cant wait
to start writting.

That looks very

diffucult... This is for
older children, Im not
capable of doing it.

Last essay I did was

really bad... Lets see
how it goes this time.

TEACHER
Before starting your
own essay, we are
going to see some
examples of this type
of composition.

STUDENTS

That is perfect! Ill

get some ideas to
write my essay

I dont want to do the

research, it is stupid to
look for examples!

The examples might

help me although I think
it is still too difficult.
Im not so critical.

TEACHER
Now that you know
the structure and how
to do this type of
essays, you can start
your own
composition!

STUDENTS
I can finally start! I love
when the teacher gives
us the opportunity to
give our opinion.

I cant see the point of

doing this type of
activities. I dont like
writing essays.

Im trying but Im stucked

and I dont know what
else to put. Maybe I can
try to remember some
of the examples to get
ideas.

CONCLUSION
With this activity students will become more competent with their writing
skills in a foreign language.

Moreover, it promotes critical thinking and argumentation.

Also it enables students to regulate their own learning process.
