Logitech, a world leader in gaming peripherals, has recently announced the Flight System
G940 force-feedback flight simulation controller that was inspired by military and commercial planes
and helicopters. The force feedback joystick features Logitechs award-winning force feedback
technology, which allows you to control your aircraft in the game with confidence as you feel its
movement and its reaction to air, turbulence and g-forces. The pedals were also inspired by the

Programmable Dual Throttle

When flying a single engine aircraft, a push-button interlocks the throttles

The interactive, programmable throttle-base buttons integrate with your favorite flight
simulation software and illuminate red, green, amber or off to indicate the status of
critical aircraft systems just like they would in a real cockpit. For your convenience,
Logitech includes 80 pre-designed legend inserts that slip into the buttons, making it
easy to create an authentic switch panel with, for example, GPS, autopilot and landinggear controls.
In addition to the eight programmable base-buttons, the Flight System G940 provides
two eight-way hat switches, four programmable grip buttons and two rotary analogcontrols. The included Logitech Gaming Software allows you to assign virtually every
possible control to the G940 in just a couple steps.
Authentic Pedals
The pedals the four-bar mechanism, inspired by the designs of current jet fighters
feature an open frame design with rudder controls and toe brakes, giving you true-to-life
control, especially when performing defensive maneuvers or crosswind landings, or
piloting helicopters. An adjustable pedal-force knob lets you change the resistance to fit
your flying style. And for added comfort, the pedal base has carpet grips and heel rests
to keep the pedals and your feet in place even during the most difficult maneuvers.

The whole setup includes a flight stick, throttle control, and a set of some of the beefiest pedals we've
yet seen, big enough for the boots of any NFL linesman who happen to stop by and heavy enough to
ensure they won't go scuttling away under your desk when you're correcting for the crosswind on the
final approach to Kai Tak.
The bases on the two desktop sticks are similarly heavy, but despite that heft their movement is quite
light. The flight stick is definitely oriented for the combat pilot, with plenty of buttons and toggles for
whatever weapons system your next gen interceptor may have on offer, plus trims knobs for all axes.
The throttle controller is similarly well endowed with buttons, a top hat and a four-way rocker, and is
split to allow control over two banks of engines. Notable here is the four-by-two array of light-up
buttons. They can individually glow red, green, or orange, and are fully programmable and customizable.
The controller will ship with an array of labels that gamers can apply to identify each control, and scripts
can be written to dictate the behavior of the buttons, so that, for example, your landing gear button will
be green when up, red when down, and maybe orange when stuck somewhere in between.
Code will be released with the controller to match a variety of popular flight sims, like Microsoft Flight
Simulator and IL-2 Sturmovik, and anyone who knows their way around a C compiler can craft their own.
We're guessing there'll be no shortage of extensions not long after this launches, which will be in
September, by the way. $299 is not cheap, but for a quality flight system like three Benjamins is
something of a bargain, and is well worth considering for anyone looking to get a bit more serious -- but
not totally hardcore -- with their digital flight craft. (htt2)
