Phase 1- Analysis of Learning and Teaching Needs


Step 1: Determine Relative Advantage
A natural disaster is an environmental phenomenon that happens naturally and is destructive. It is
important to have students understand what is a natural disaster by knowing the definition, types
of natural disasters and the effects existing on health and physical wellness. Natural disasters are
so devastating that it destroys human life in some places. With the use of Information
Communication Technology (ICT) resources, students will gain knowledge and have a deeper
understanding of this topic.
Step 2: Assess Required Resources and Skills
Time was spent viewing internet sources and website materials. The group decided to use a
youtube video for the lesson. With this video, students will learn through audio and visual aids.
This will therefore reach the students with different learning styles and abilities.

Phase 2- Planning for Integration
Step 3: Decide on objectives and assessments
The aim is for the students to achieve more results with these resources. The experience must be
both interesting and challenging for further in depth of this lesson.

Outcome: Select and use appropriate concepts to understand the effects of natural

disasters to humans and properties.


Objective: Students will define, watch a video, state and explain natural disasters.
Assessment: Students will do created worksheets to end this lesson.
Outcome: This will test the students knowledge on the topic.

Step 4: Design Integration Strategies


For this project, the group decided on three integration strategies for successful implementation
of the lesson. These strategies include a website that will be used to share content knowledge
about natural disasters.
Step 5: Prepare Instructional Environment

Materials:

The computer and projector will be set up to look at the videos. The computer will be set up to
view the power point presentations.

Back- up plan:

The back-up plan would be for the teacher to use handouts, demonstrations and worksheets to
teach the lesson effectively to the students.
Phase 3: Post- Instruction Analysis and Revisions
Step 6: Analysis results
Observe the students reaction during the class activity. Recognize their strengths, weaknesses,
and challenges on the task. Ask the students to share their thoughts about the website, videos and
power point presentations.
Step 7: Make Revisions

Assign the more difficult task to the best students.


Review and discuss more videos before post-assessment.
Expand the project to include other examples in the environment.
Use the bulletin board in the computer lab to display hard copies from the website.

INSRUCTIONAL PROBLEM: Students do not understand the term natural disasters, does not
know the different types of natural disasters and the effects it has on health and physical
wellness.
RELATIVE ADVANTAGE: Using ICT will target all the teaching objectives within this lesson.
It will also promote constructivist strategy.
CHARACTERISTICS:
Gender: 10 boys 8 girls
Age: 9-10 years
Ethnicity: Mixed class
Education: The students have written a National Examination in Standard 1.
SCHOOL RESOURCES: Computer lab, Projector, Radio, Television, Internet, 24 computers
(desktops), 5 tablets.
LEARNING TYPES:
1. The class is comprised of students of varied learning styles and intelligences.
(Present are: 10 visual, 5 linguistic and 3 auditory learners)

2. Students will use visual aids and concrete objects to learn about Natural Disasters (charts,
videos), thereby catering for their abilities and learning styles.
3. Students will learn the lesson through the use of critical thinking.
GOALS:
At the end of this lesson, the students will be able to define what is a natural disaster, state the
different types of natural disasters and the effects of disasters.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Define the term natural disaster after viewing a website.
2. After watching the video on natural disasters, the Standard 2 students will be able to state
the different types of natural disasters.
3. After viewing a power point presentation, the Standard 2 students will explain the effects
of disasters on human health.
4. After viewing a power point presentation, the Standard 2 students will explain the effects
of disasters on human physical wellness.

The Standard 2 students within a classroom of 18 students ( 10 boys & 8 girls) will be capable to
define the term natural disaster, state the different types of natural disasters and explain the
effects of disasters on human health and physical wellness. At the end of this lesson, the students
will be given an assessment sheet where they would complete the questions individually to
assess what knowledge has been learnt.
SET INDUCTION:
A short video would be shown to the students about Natural Disasters. After viewing this video,
the students will be asked questions about what they think is a natural disaster.

NAME OF PROJECT: Natural Disasters


DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT:
This project would help the students of the Standard 2 class to understand the topic of Natural
Disasters. In this lesson, there were different subtopics. It is easily understood and interactive for
all students in the class. The lesson is very simple and brief where we had a wide range of
resources to accompany each subtopic, therefore making the lesson effective from a perspective
based on the technology given.
CONTRIBUTIORS TO THE PROJECT:

All members of the group came together and complied the technology aspect of the lesson by
taking a part and assembling it into its respective order.

The use of the website is for all students to learn the content area of Natural Disasters and view
in the form of pictures therefore deepening their level of creativity and understanding. The
videos were used to enhance the students ability of learning. Some videos were both real and
animated to access the different type of learners. The use of the power point is also another way

of viewing the content of the topic. This will allow the students to download and view the
content directly.
