Recap
Last week, we saw that the great King David came from the meeting of the blessed Boaz and Ruth.
The things that God does are beyond our imagination. Although there are times when we cannot see
temporarily, God is doing important works.
Introduction
David who was after God’s heart defeated all of Israel’s enemies (In his lifetime, not one of his enemies
could stand undefeated before him). In his lifetime, King David prepared all the people and materials
that were needed to build God’s holy temple (the priests, singers, pianists, drummers and choirs;
cleaners, gatekeepers, treasurers; lots of gold, silver, bronze, metals, wood and instruments in the holy
temple). Now, King David was old and about to leave the world. Therefore, David brought his son,
Solomon, who was chosen by God and who was also after God’s heart, before him. He told Solomon
as he passed his status to King to him, “God is already with you, therefore be strong and courageous.
Be careful to observe all the promises that God has given you, complete the work that God has given
you to build the Lord’s holy temple.” Thereafter, King David prayed for Solomon and also directed him,
asking him to remove all his subordinates who did not listen to God and David. Having said that, David
left the world to where God was. When Solomon became the King of Israel, relying on the wisdom that
God had given him, he killed all the people who did not listen to God and his father, David. Therefore,
Israel was firmly established under Solomon’s hand. The whole Israel also acknowledged Solomon as
King.

1. King David passed on God’s promise and the work of building the temple to his
son, Solomon
1) Solomon was chosen by God to succeed David as King because Solomon knew
God’s promises (i.e. 4 Gospelization). Solomon knew that God chose him to be
Israel’s King because through him, the Israelites could love God more and more,
follow God and therefore bless their families, the whole Israel and the whole world.
2) Therefore, David instructed Solomon that in his lifetime, he had to build the Lord,
God’s holy temple. Therefore, in this holy temple, the Israelites could hear God’s
voice from His words, converse with God and to worship God.
3) Because Solomon knew God’s promises, and through the holy temple, he knew all of
God’s words (decrees, commandments and laws), and hence respect (i.e. in all
things follow) the Lord, his God. Therefore, Solomon became a wise King.
* Confirm: Does everyone regard God’s promises and words that Teacher tells all of you
daily as true, and also believe and submit to them?

2. King David instructed Solomon to rely on God to be strong and careful

1) Why do we need to be strong/ careful? Because the devil, Satan will use many
methods/ schemes to make you forget God’s words/ promises, causing you to be
proud and hence rely on yourself. When you are proud and hence forget God’s
words/ promises, you will lose all of God’s wisdom and will not be able to lead the
whole Israel. Neither will you have the method to bless the countries and people of
this world.
2) Why do we need to be strong/ careful? Because the devil, Satan will use many
people who do not listen to God to go against you. They will use their power and
strength to go against you, causing you to be fearful and hence discouraged.
Therefore, there is no way to properly lead Israel to bless the whole world.
3) Why do we need to be strong/ careful? Because the devil, Satan will use a lot of the
world’s glory and wealth (e.g. money, fame, good food, entertainment, beautiful
things, things pleasing to the ears) to take away the heart that loves God, loves
people and loves the Kingdom.
* Examine: Children, where are the areas of your life that need to be strong (trials) or be
careful (temptations)?

3. From what King David told him of God’s words, Solomon relied on God to eliminate
all the subordinates who did not listen to God
1) Why was there a need to eliminate? Because they were always going against God’s
work. Therefore, if there are areas, habits, interests, social circle and our own
thinking, which are presumably good for us, God will remove them all.
2) How to eliminate? Eliminate step-by-step according to God’s wisdom, methods and
time-table. For example, when we continually discover that there are some habits
and interests that bind us, and cause us to neglect God’s words, neglect our studies,
neglect the relationship and communication between our family members, we must
quickly give them up (or do so with self-control).
3) How was it after the elimination? After we eliminate the things in our lives that do not
follow God, we will surely be able to love God and love people more. Thereafter, God
will allow everything that we do to prosper. When we submit to God, God will cause
others to listen to us too. Therefore, when Solomon submitted to God by eliminating
those who did not listen to God, Israel was firmly established under Solomon’s hands
and all the people of Israel listened to him.

* Submit: When we know God’s words/ direction and submit, we will blessedly receive
the blessings that King Solomon blessedly receive.
