The Allied attack on Italy

was actually a British plan
to attack the Germans in their soft underbelly.
U.S. planners were not thrilled in attacking here, preferring
to attack in France instead.

The geography of Italy made it VERY difficult for allied
forces to move up the boot of Italy.
Most of the resistance came not from the Italian army, but
from the German army.
The Germans fought primarily a defensive war, forcing the
allies to attack up the book.
Not many troops captured, most retreated.
TWS Russia, which had been fending off the Germans for two years,
was very happy that the Allies finally were attacking the Germans in
Europe. Explain why you think this was the case.
