Subject: Application for the position of Product Manager at Amazon India

Respected Sir,
I hereby express my keen interest for the position of Product Manager at Amazon India. I did my under-graduation in Computer Science &
Engineering and then chose to work for Ericsson R&D. Working in research and development department has not only strengthened my
analytical skills, but has also given me exposure to latest industry and technological trends, which I plan to use in my role at Amazon.
In my understanding, a Product Manager at Amazon is the owner of the product. She is the interface between the customers needs and
the product. She is essentially a leader who understands the consumer needs, lays out requirements and determines the market strategy
for the product. It is therefore her responsibility, to communicate this vision to her team and ensure that it meets customers expectations.
I believe my leadership ability, marketing knowledge and technical background make me a perfect fit for this role.
Working at Ericsson gave me the opportunity to work on very diverse set of products. While my first product was a Billing product for
postpaid and prepaid charging in Telecom sector, my second product was a Device Manager, which remotely managed more than 10
million devices in the Internet of Things (IoT) domain.
The first product gave me an opportunity to work on a scalable business solution that was critical to revenue generation for 360+ global
Telecom operators. This product gave me the analytical ability and design capability to understand the problems of scale and implement
innovative solutions with less turnaround time. I also undertook an initiative to create a new revenue stream for this 20 year product
(market leader) by leveraging on ease-of-use and user experience learnings.
In my second project, I was the Team Leader responsible for transfer of a product from Ericsson Sweden to Ericsson India. In this capacity, I
was managing a team of 15 members across Sweden and India along with understanding customer problems, defining product
requirements, planning feature release, managing multiple stakeholder expectations, ensuring adherence to project schedule and budget,
and resolving critical customer issues.
Next, I became the Architect and Product Owner of the IoT product which could manage a diverse range of devices like Set-Top boxes,
Smart Meters and Connected Cars. It was a niche domain at Ericsson, and hence allowed me (one of the first three developers of the
product) to devise a strategy to take it forward in a startup-like fashion. I delivered solutions to major Telecom operators in Europe and
North America and was the Point of Contact towards them. I learnt that continuous innovations act as a competitive advantage for any
new technology. My interactions and feedback from clients taught me the importance of user experience to a products usability in market.
My interactions with Strategic Product Managers at Ericsson and an entrepreneurial interest in e-commerce have motivated me to pursue
a Product Management role. To increase my competency in this area, I have undertaken the courses of Entrepreneurship, Strategies of
Digital Economy, Consumer Behavior and Marketing Research at ISB. My ability to adapt quickly and willingness to learn in diverse settings
had served me well in an agile environment. The cross-cultural learning I had in my international assignments would certainly help me
adapt with global culture at Amazon.
Coming from the IoT Web product background, I am enthused to by the opportunity of becoming a part of the fast paced e-retailing
industry and the open entrepreneurial work-culture at Amazon. I envision this opportunity as an effective platform to leverage my skills
and contribute to the growth and success of the firm. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
--
