THEME/TOPIC : PEOPLE / GETTING TO KNOW YOU


OBJECTIVE : Students will be able to:
i. Get to know each other
ii. Understand the English Language syllabus & SPM exam format
iii. Write their problems and expectations in learning English Language.
CONTENT : English Language Syllabus, SPM examination format
ACTIVITIES :
1. Ice breaking session students are to write their hopes for SPM 2015 on a piece of paper, and
later keep them in a jar. The teacher then talks about the jar of hope as a symbol of the students'
hope as upper form students.
2. Teacher lays out the rules and regulations for her class.
3. Teacher asks students some questions pertaining the subject.
4. Teacher refreshes students on basic topics & the SPM examination format.
5. Teacher distributes stick-on notes, students have to write their problems in learning English
Language and expectations in form 4.
6. Discussion of the students responses.

EVALUATION: Students' ability to write a self-reflection and to express their feelings
REFLECTION : The lesson went well. 3 students were not in class as they had to be the
orientation committee for Form 1 orientation week. Students were given a homework for the
weekend - to write a paragraph of what they have learnt on the first day of school.

THEME/TOPIC : PEOPLE / GREAT EXPECTATION
OBJECTIVE : Students will be able to:
i. brainstorm ideas for a narrative writing
CONTENT : English Language Syllabus, SPM examination format
ACTIVITIES :
1. Ice breaking session students are to write their hopes for SPM 2015 on a piece of paper, and

later keep them in a jar. The teacher then talks about the jar of hope as a symbol of the students'
hope as upper form students.
2. Teacher lays out the rules and regulations for her class.
3. Teacher refreshes students on basic topics & the SPM Paper 1 examination format.
4. Students sit in groups, and do brainstorming activity using "The Ideas Factory" writer's toolkit.
5. Students prepare their groups' storylines.
6. Teacher helps the groups with their work.
7. Students present their storylines.

EVALUATION: Students' ability to write a storyline
REFLECTION : The students love The Ideas Factory! All 3/3 groups managed to present their
storylines. For homework, the teacher asked the students to write narrative essays based on the
storylines they produced.

THEME/TOPIC : LITERATURE COMPONENT / POEM "IN THE MIDST OF HARDSHIP"

OBJECTIVE : Students will be able to:


i. understand the meaning of the poem, line by line.
ii. understand the themes of the poem
CONTENT : Meaning (figurative and literal) and themes
ACTIVITIES :
1. A student recites the poem aloud.
2. Discussion of the meaning.
3. Discussion of the themes.
4. Students write the synopsis of the poem in their books.
MATERIALS : handouts

EVALUATION: Students' ability to write a synopsis
REFLECTION : 80% of the students completed their synopsis on time. The lesson went
according to plan.

OBJECTIVE : Students will be able to:
i. Talk about the concerns of a teenager, about self, family and friends, teenagers, past events,
feelings, personal experiences.
ii. Understand the rules of Subject-Verb Agreement & write 5 correct sentences.
iii. Do 10 comprehension questions based on an article.
CONTENT : Grammar - Subject-Verb-Agreement, reading skills (reading for main ideas &
supporting details)
ACTIVITIES :
1. Set induction - teacher asks students to share their opinion regarding their life as teenagers, by
writing letters to their parents.
2. Students sit in groups of four and conduct a group discussion on the topic.
3. Teacher explains on Subject-Verb-Agreement using the formula of SaVE HELINAC.
4. Students write 5 sentences each, first on a piece of paper, then on the board when picked at
random by the teacher.
5. Discussion and correction (if there is any error made)

CONTENT : Kedah 2012 SPM Trial Paper 2 (Section A & B)


ACTIVITIES :
1. Refresher lesson - teacher reminds students the importance of knowing the strategy to take as
preparation for SPM 2013.
2. Discussion of the SPM English Paper 1 & 2 formats & strategies
3. Teacher distributes Kedah 2012 SPM Trial Paper 2 for students to do Section A & B in class.
4. Discussion of the correct answers.
MATERIALS : Kedah 2012 SPM Trial Paper 2
ASSIMILATION : Technology, Science, History
EVALUATION: Students' ability to give correct answers to both Sections A &B.
REFLECTION: The lesson went well. 1/14 students scored 100% correct answers for both
Section A and B, 1/14 students scored below 80%, while the rest fell in between 81% to 99%.

3. Students are to talk about what they see in the video clip.
4. Teacher gives information about the poem using the powerpoint slides.
5. Students sit in groups of 5, each group is given a mahjong paper.
6. Students "draw" the poem according to their own understanding, together with the synopsis of
the poem.
7. Students present their work in front of the class, followed by a class discussion.
