MITEL 5320e / 5330e / 5340e IP PHONES
PURPOSE
The purpose of this product brief is to provide internal Mitel staff with details of the new embedded Gigabit IP Phones,
which will be delivered with Mitel Communications Director (MCD) Release 5.0 SP1. The new Mitel 5320e IP Phone,
Mitel 5330e IP Phone, and Mitel 5340e IP Phone are also known as the e-Series IP Phones and deliver new
enhancements to the Desktop Portfolio.
5300 E-SERIES IP PHONES OVERVIEW

Mitel is expanding our Desktop Portfolio with three new IP Phones. The 5320e, 5330e, and 5340e IP Phones are the
latest additions to one of the most comprehensive desktop portfolios in the Industry. These three new application
phones deliver all the same features that are available on the current Mitel 5320, 5330, and 5340 IP Phones, but with
powerful new enhancements. Embedded Gigabit support, Wideband Audio on the new 5320e IP Phone, double the
amount of RAM for future features and applications support, as well as IPv6 support are just some of the exciting new
features of the e-Series IP Phones.
EMBEDDED GIGABIT ETHERNET SUPPORT

While the Mitel Gigabit Ethernet Stand has been available as an add-on accessory to the IP Phones for some time
now, the lack of a range of Embedded Gigabit phones in our Desktop portfolio has been a key competitive gap for
Mitel. Mitel authorizedPARTNERS have told us they are currently losing deals because our external stand approach
is seen as outdated, creating the perception that Mitels desktop portfolio is behind the times in terms of current
technology trends. Many of our competitors offer multiple embedded GigE phones in their desktop portfolios.
The new e-Series IP Phones now come with an embedded 10/100/1000 Mb switch for full gigabit support to the
desktop. This new enhancement allows Mitel to stay competitive, as gigabit to the desktop becomes more
mainstream.
MULTI-FUNCTION PROGRAMMABLE SELF-LABELING KEYS

Users can personally program and label the multi-function keys on the phone from the Desktop User Tool, Mitel
Unified Communicator Express (UCX), and Mitel Live Content Suite, or directly through the Settings interface.
Intuitive navigation keys allow users to easily move between multiple screens. Administrators will appreciate the
ability to easily manage users though remote programming, eliminating the need for any paper labels, as well as
reducing installation and ongoing operational costs.
UNIFIED COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT

When used with Mitel Unified Communicator (UC) Express or Mitel Unified Communicator (UC) applications, the
5300 e-Series IP Phones become a powerful communications tool that help customers streamline communications
between people and organizations. This leads to improved productivity, enhanced customer service, reduced costs,
and ultimately improved business process integration.
VALUE ADDED APPLICATIONS SUPPORT

The 5300 e-Series IP Phones support HTML applications like Mitel Intelligent Directory and Mitel Live Content Suite.
Intelligent Directory provides a simple, intuitive, on-screen, searchable directory of both corporate (Microsoft Active
Directory ) and personal contacts (Microsoft Outlook ) right on the phone's display. Increase efficiency with this free
desktop application that allows users to access contact, calendar, and presence information for both corporate and
personal directories directly on their phone.
Live Content Suite enables the creation and publishing of dynamic and personalized information to your users,
transforming Mitel 5300 e-Series IP Phones into rich media information appliances. Improve communication with your

employees by providing easy access to the information they need, when they need it and where they need it, on their
phones.
The HTML Desktop Toolkit enables simple, intuitive development of customized applications that are easily
integrated with telephony functions for the 5300 e-Series IP Phones. HTML applications developed using the toolkit
will be able to run within the phone without requiring an external server, providing cost-effective implementation for
value-added applications.
SUPERIOR ACOUSTICS WITH WIDEBAND AUDIO

The 5300 e-Series IP Phones have been designed to provide superior sound quality. Wideband Audio is a standard
feature on the 5320e, 5330e, and 5340e IP Phones and they come equipped with a wideband audio handset (7 kHz),
as well as full duplex handsfree, making them acoustically superior to many IP phones available today.
PERIPHERALS SUPPORT FOR UNIQUE NEEDS

Customize the 5330e and 5340e IP Phones to specific user requirements by selecting the right accessory theres
no need to purchase various types of phones. The 5330e and 5340e IP Phones can be easily enhanced with any of
the following phone accessories:
Mitel Line Interface Module, which allows analog connectivity for emergency dialing is an ideal accessory for
Teleworkers
Mitel 5310 IP Conference Unit, which provides instant superior quality voice conferencing
Mitel Cordless (DECT) Accessories Module, which supports the Cordless (DECT) Handset and Cordless
(DECT) Headset to provide limited area mobility
Mitel Bluetooth Module which supports third-party Bluetooth headsets and the Mitel Bluetooth Handset
12- and 48-button Mitel Programmable Key Modules, which easily add up to 96 additional programmable

Mitel 5610 IP DECT Stand and Handset, which is a unique accessory that offers a low cost wireless solution

Part of the new generation desktop family, the 5320e IP Phone demonstrates Mitels commitment to ease of use and
enhanced user value, while delivering innovative features and applications. A full-feature enterprise-class telephone,
the 5320e IP Phone provides a large backlit graphics display with eight multi-function, programmable, self-labeling
keys, three intuitive softkeys, 12 telephony function hard keys, and a built-in HTML player for desktop applications.
This full duplex handsfree phone also supports hot desking and clustered hot desking, Dynamic Extension capability
as well as resiliency. It is ideal for enterprise executives, managers, and employees, and can be used as an ACD
agent, as a supervisor phone, or as a teleworker phone.

Is a power adapter shipped with the 5320e, 5330e, and 5340e IP Phones?
No, the power adapter for the phone must be purchased separately. Due to the fact that our IP Phones are 802.3af
compliant, there are a number of different powering options available to our customers. With the introduction of
Universal Power Adapters, Mitel has simplified the ordering and configuration options for power adapters for IP
phones and peripherals.
Do the 5320e, 5330e, and 5340e IP Phones support headset operation?
Yes. The e-Series IP Phones all have a separate headset jack or port in the base of the phone. The 5330e and
5340e IP Phones also support the Mitel Cordless (DECT) Headset as well as 3rd party Bluetooth headsets using the
Bluetooth Module.
Do the Mitel IP Phones support Electronic Switch Hook (EHS) in order to support third-party wireless
headsets without a handset lifter?
No, the current 5300 e-Series IP Phones do not support Electronic Hook Switch (EHS). The reason it was not
implemented is because it would have required an extensive hardware redesign. The only options for headsets that
don't require a handset lifter are the Cordless DECT Headset and third-party Bluetooth Headsets.
Is there an opportunity to Custom Brand the 5320e / 5330e / 5340e IP Phones?
There is an option for Mitel authorizedPARTNERS to purchase the blank branding plates at the top of the phones,
and brand these for their customers. We have created a part number for Blank plastic snap-in faceplates for the top
of the e-Series IP Phones. These blank faceplates have been tooled by our manufacturer in China so that they are an
exact fit in our Phones. Mitel authorizedPARTNERS will have to source their own supplier to do the custom printing
on these faceplates as there are just too many suppliers around the world who do this sort of custom branding for
Mitel to recommend any one supplier. Here is the Part Number for the blank Branding Plate:

Does the 5320e IP Phone support Modules, IP Peripherals and Stands?

The 5320e IP Phone only supports 5610 IP DECT Stand for connectivity options. In order to keep it a basic, cost
effective, entry level phone, it was not designed with a Module slot to support any Modules such as the 5310
Conference Unit, Cordless (DECT) Handset and Headset accessories, Bluetooth Module and Handset, PKMs, or
Line Interface Module. When Mitel polled its authorizedPARTNERS and customers for what they needed in an entry
level, self-labeling phone, the majority of the feedback indicated that Modules support was not a requirement on the
5320 IP Phone or 5320e IP Phone in order for this IP Phone to be competitive. Customers requiring add-on
peripherals have the option to move up to the 5330 or 5330e IP Phone.

Yes. The 5320e, 5330e and 5340e IP Phones (MiNET mode) support 802.1x on the MCD.
Is there a desktop tool available to program the self-labeling programmable keys on the IP Phones?
Yes, the standard MCD Desktop Tool that is available with all of the other 5300 Series IP Phones can also be used to
program the keys on the 5320e, 5330e, and 5340e IP Phones.
Do the 5320e, 5330e, and 5340e IP Phones support HTML applications?
Yes. The e-Series IP Phones are capable of delivering powerful applications and network data to the desktop.
Because the HTML player is included with the e-Series IP Phones, applications that are developed using the HTML
Toolkit can be easily deployed to any 5320e, 5330e, or 5340e IP Phone anywhere in the network. The e-Series IP
Phones support applications developed using HTML Toolkit Release 2.2.
What are the audio specifications of the 5300 IP Phones?
The 5300 Series and e-Series IP Phones are compliant with both the FCC and ADA requirements for handset,
speaker, and ringing volume levels.
The FCC requirements (Part 68, Section 68.317 (a) (b)) are:
Minimum +12 dB above nominal, Maximum +18 dB above nominal, with the volume resetting to nominal at +18 dB.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Requirements: (255, Section 508) are:
+12 dB minimum, +21 dB maximum, with the handset volume resetting to nominal at +18 dB and higher
Nominal is 0 dB.

What is the sound pressure level for maximum handsfree volume that can be supported from the Phones
speaker?
The sound pressure level that the Mitel IP Phones support on handsfree at maximum volume
is as follows:
72 dBA @ 50 cm (0.5 meter)
78 dBA @ 100 cm (1 meter)
80 dBA @ 150 cm (1.5 meter)
Does Mitel offer an amplified handset for the IP Phones?
Mitel does not offer any specialty Handsets for the IP Phones However, Walker, a Division of Plantronics does make
in in-line amplifier that works with most phones. The W10 Series of In-Line Amplifiers easily installs between the
existing telephone handset jack and the handset itself, and improves listening volume up to 20dB for clearer

When Mitel states that IP Phone handsets are Hearing Aid Compatible (HAC), what does it actually mean in
practice, e.g., do they act as a hearing loop device and can they support some hearing aid interface devices,
etc.?
Yes, all of Mitels Phones (DNIC and IP) have always been designed to be hearing aid compatible. A phone is
hearing aid compatible if it provides internal means (i.e., without the use of external devices) for effective use with
hearing aids that are designed to be compatible with phones that meet the FCC's technical standard for hearing aid
compatibility (the US FCC technical standard is codified at 47 C.F.R. 68.316). This is accomplished by inserting a
telecoil in the phones that detects, or is compatible with, a similar telecoil in the hearing aid, and thus allows the
hearing aid to "couple" with the telephone through an electromagnetic field.
This does not have to mean however, that the phones must be able to be used by persons who have no hearing at
all. It depends upon the individual's degree and nature of hearing loss, and factors such as whether a person uses a
hearing aid or can hear with volume amplification. Some individuals with hearing disabilities do not use hearing aids
or cannot benefit from amplification, and may access the telephone network primarily through text telephones (TTYs)
and telecommunications relay services (TRS). There is also the option to use a Volume Control device that will boost
the handset's maximum volume by another 6 10 dB (our phones currently have a maximum volume rating of 21
dB). Walker, for example, has an in-line volume control device that sits between the Handset and the Phone (it plugs

into the handset jack, and the handset plugs into the Walker device) that is compatible with our phones, and allows
the volume to be amplified greater than our 21 dB, and still allows our Phones to HAC compliant.
