I am writing to introduce myself and express my interest in attaining a position as a Registered Nurse at
MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in the Nurse Residency Program. As a hospital with Magnet Status

correlates with my personal ambitions. Furthermore, as indicated on my resume, my education and clinical
experience meets the qualifications required for this position. My special area of interest is intermediate level or
step down Medical/ Surgical Telemetry.
Through my previous employment as Nurse Extern in the Valley Health System, I gained the experience of
working on various units at Winchester Medical Hospital. As an Extern I worked in the following different
units: Neurology, Critical Care, Telemetry, and Home Health. The externship allowed me to hone my nursing
skills, broaden my knowledge base, and receive excellent mentorship. Also, having the opportunity to work in a
hospital system as a hired employee has prepared me for a transition to professional nursing.
In addition to my nursing skills, I offer superb leadership, interpersonal, and organization skills that set me
apart. As the student representative for the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee for the Eleanor Wade Custer
School of Nursing at Shenandoah University, I gather and present student concerns to faculty members at
monthly meetings. Through my involvement with the committee, I was a part of many beneficial changes that
impacted students in my cohort as well as future students. Faculty members of the committee have commented
on my dedication to learning, effective communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively with others.
