Since I was in class 10 I was fascinated by technology, I was awed with their
capabilities and what they could achieve within a matter of few nanoseconds. My
Interest grew in electronics when I saw the movie I Robot starring Will Smith.
This movie motivated me to take Robotics. Fortunately I was lucky enough to get
Electronics and Communication branch in the Entrance exam counseling .My
other Inspiration was from Sci-fi Novels such as The Time Machine by H.G.Wells
which credited the concept of time travel by using an electronic vehicle to travel
purposefully and selectively. The term time machine coined by wells, is now
universally used to such a vehicle. This work is an example of dying earth genre.
On the Whole my interest in electronics grew as the influence of electronic
technology grew on movies.

When I joined engineering in

this prestigious institution I was very eager and excited to learn how all the
electronic devices shown in the movies worked. Most of those devices used really
basic concepts of electronics. My favorite subject in this course was Antennas and
Wave propagation which involves wireless communication, this subject was a
continuation of Field Theory .The basic concept of magnetic repulsion is used in
Maglev trains. The most difficult subject I faced was Operating System in 6 th
semester .It involved a lot of by hearting at which I am really poor at doing. My aim
in engineering was to understand the concepts involved and where they are applied
in the real world. Studying about antennas and its applications in the real world was
a phenomenal experience under Mr.Vikramathithan .His knowledge about the
subject was infinitesimal he could go on and on about how and where antennas
were used .From our cell phones to antennas used in satellites he knew everything.
His Teaching even more got me interested in Antennas. My vision in the field of
Antennas is to use the latest Antenna technology and send deep space signals from
earth. This can achieved, but it will the cost of this operation is extremely high. This
can be achieved by using array of antennas across the earth from different earth
stations and creating a virtual antenna above the atmospheric layer and using a
boosting satellite to amplify the signal and send it into deep space for possible
extraterrestrial communication. NASAs deep space network is a collection of
antennas is an example of deep space communication. I was also interested in
control engineering subject which used mathematical angle in determining the
stability of a microchip.
I chose this college in particular because I wanted
to come Bangalore under any circumstances. I wanted get away from the slow
paced country side life to the fast life of the city. It was little difficult for me to adapt
to the thinking and the way of life the city, In these 4 years Bangalore has taught
me a lot about how to adapt and adjust with problems faced in day to day
situations. My way of thinking has changed; my judgment of other people is
completely gone. I have developed a competitive mindset which helped me in
improving myself .Career Opportunities in this branch are endless as the

technological advancements in the field of electronics is developing manifold every

day. From developing new ICs and programmable FPGAs for various applications for
basic requirements such an Anti-collision devices in trains and Airplanes. I want a
have a career in developing basic electronic devices which can be used in daily life
such as scanning crowds for a possible felon on the loose or escaped prisoner. This
technology involves image processing and developing a database of all the escaped
criminals for facial recognition. Career opportunities in EC branch are available in
every field of work today. For example, for maintenance of appliances to quality
checking. There is also careers in VLSI.This VLSI branch is divided into 2 parts
Physical VLSI and Digital VLSI.Physical VLSI involves designing an IC and verification
of its stability. The design part involves fabrication of an IC core from a silicon draft
and loading the circuit using VLSI technology. Unfortunately in India we lack the
Latest VLSI technology, Therefore we rely on LSI technologies that presently in use
by BEL, ITI only. India lacks in latest Electronic technology. Hence do what we say in
Hindi as JUGAAD, that basically means using a cheaper device rather than a
standard one. This surely reduces the cost of the project on the whole but reduces
the lifetime of any electronic device. Being in this branch also its advantages when
there are less opportunities, An EC engineer can jump into IT fields. Since the
knowledge he gained during his academics can help him in development/testing of
various software that are used in electronic devices.
An EC engineer can also get into the Instrumentation field or Bio-Medical field for a
better career.Althought very few colleges in Karnataka offer Bio-Medical
Engg.course.This field involves the study of Human body and Electronics.Humaniods
program of a DARPA of the United states department of defence has made many
advancements in the field of Robotics.
