Exploratory essay

Earth is a beautiful place full of life, a place we call home. The very molecules in the
air we breathe fill our lungs to fuel our purpose. But, why are we so focused on our purpose
that we neglect our home, the very place that gave us a purpose, a life? Our society is built
around burning fossil fuels and in return we are cutting down the lifespan of our earth. We
have remarkable opportunities to minimize global warming emissions into our atmosphere,
however, some are unaware of benefits and some simply dismiss the idea of global
warming. Each year worldwide we dump approximately 38.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide
into the air just from burning fossil fuels, this dramatically impacts our earth's climate. That
being said, sooner or later we will have to make a change in energy production or there
wont be a life as we know it for future generations. Furthermore, the central idea of this
paper is argue the importance of the green home movement and its benefits to our
environment, health, and economy.
The green home movement is centered around building energy efficient and
environmentally friendly homes and facilities for the benefit of our future on earth. Green
buildings are to preserve the natural environment around the site, while still constructing a
resourceful building. The structure will promote a healthy environment for all that is
involved, without disrupting land, water, resources, or energy in or around the structure.
That being said, why go green? You can go green in many ways, however, green
buildings and homes could make a huge impact on our society and economy. They are
designed to reduce environmental impact and improve ones health in several different
ways. Likewise, they reduce trash, pollution, and degradation to the environment. They are
also an efficient use of energy, water, and other resources. In addition, green buildings

protect ones health and improve productivity. Given, the air and water pollution emitted by
power plants are associated with breathings problems, neurological damage, heart attacks
and cancer. Green home building is overall a healthier alternative and with a higher demand
for the movement, creates an great economic benefits.
Furthermore, renewable energy already supports thousands of jobs in the U.S.
According to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA),
In 2011, the wind energy industry directly employed 75,000 full-time-equivalent employees in a
variety of capacities, including manufacturing, project development, construction and turbine
installation, operations and maintenance, transportation and logistics, and financial, legal, and
consulting services (Benefits par 18).

Higher demand for clean energy, other energy technology industries, such as solar,
hydroelectric, and geothermal have employed hundreds of thousands more citizens. Since
2011 there is still an increasing demand for renewable energy and it still has the potential to
create even more opportunities for the future. In addition to job growth, there are other
economic benefits, such as local governments can collect property and income taxes from
renewable energy project owners. Therefore, revenues can support public necessities.
In summary, our earth is suffering from our ways of life, though not all see it as a
detriment to our environment but a minor inconvenience. This is a cause that needs to be
supported by more than a few to make an impact on the environment and the sooner the
better. However, switching from fossil fuel powered energy to renewable energy would be a
gradual and tedious transition and take many years. In the long run, it would save generations
to come from toxic pollution and deathly health issues. Withal, these facts have been proven
time and time again, but still seen as a controversial. Why isnt our government/country
responding with an immediate approach and what other ways to support the green
movement?
