to
Educate Youths about Tolerance and Different Beliefs, Report Warns, written
by Lucy Sherriff, taken from The Huffington Post UK, An important change in the
education policy is needed in order to instruct young generations about
acceptance and different faiths. The author states that education should not
only help students to develop skills that will make them able to deal with
controversial topics, but also tackle the problems that are being encountered by
different communities such as inter-religious tensions and prejudice. It is also
mentioned that poor intercultural education reinforce stereotypes and that this
approach should move to an efficient multicultural instruction where pupils can
develop tolerance and shift perceptions in a more positive direction.
It is argued by the author that bad intercultural education can be worse than not
intercultural education at all. I utterly agree with the author in this assumption.
As far as I am concerned, when people have a poor basis on education they
tend to believe in stereotypes; furthermore, this ignorance leads to racism and
inter-religious tensions between communities. As it is known, religious conflicts
are something that exist in our society, and they are a matter to be concerned
on due to the fact that these conflicts can lead to violent confrontations between
countries. Therefore, it is essential to have a good education about cultural
diversity in order to be prepared to deal with different beliefs and to show a
respectful attitude towards variety to life in a peaceful society.
The writer claims that young people need the skills to navigate successfully and
thrive in our diverse society. As it can be seen, the world is becoming a
multicultural society due to the globalization and the constant evolution of
technology. It is easy to migrate from one country to another and that is the
reason why it is very common to see people from different races in our cities
looking for job opportunities. I believe that it is particularly important to have a
positive attitude toward multiculturalism, because it is something that cannot be
reversed, consequently skills to subsist within different beliefs should be taught
to young people from the very beginning of the education process.
Multiculturalism is a phenomenon that exists around the whole world, from my
point of view it is an opportunity to enrich ourselves with new information about
other realities and to develop respect and tolerance.
