Education Reflection
I know a few people with vison or hearing impairments. My cousin Jake for example
has to wear a hearing aid if he wants to communicate with people well. My neighbor
is blind and must use various instruments (not sure what each is called) to do
things. They both are very smart but just need some assistance to get things done.
In the classroom they might need a few accommodations but that doesnt make
them dumb. As a future educator I will do all I can to make the students feel normal
the classroom. I feel as if the media stereotypes people with disabilities in negatives
ways. They over exaggerate some of the symptoms making it seem people with
these disabilities cant go through life normally, yes they need help but they can still
function normally.
I found this section about Stevie Wonder from an article: https://www.disabledworld.com/artman/publish/famous-blind.shtml

Stevie Wonder is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record

producer. Blind from infancy, It is thought that he received excessive oxygen in his
incubator which led to retinopathy of prematurity, a destructive ocular disorder
affecting the retina, characterized by abnormal growth of blood vessels, scarring,
and sometimes retinal detachment.
