LEARNING STRATEGIES: The teachers will use the method of team teaching throughout the
lesson on ratios. The lesson will begin with direct instruction of necessary vocabulary terms
essential to understanding of the lesson. The teachers will activate prior knowledge and personal
experience by asking the student where he may have seen ratios in his life previously(other than
the math classroom). The lesson will then progress to guided practice with authentic
problems.The hands on activity will be an authentic practices, the student will plan a Thanksgiving
Dinner while calculating ratios, proportions, percents, discount, percent of change, sales tax and
commission
MOTIVATION:

When the lesson is set to occur, Thanksgiving will becoming up and the student will most likely
be anticipating the holiday. The student will be motivated by authentic
PRESENTATION:
(Language and content objectives, comprehensible input, strategies, interaction, feedback)
The lesson will begin with a powerpoint that gives the student found understanding of ratios. The
teachers will present the slides collaboratively and alternate between slides. The eightieth slide
has practice problems listed. The teachers will model the first practice problem, the student will
be required to answer the rest of the practice problems and will have guided assistance if
necessary. The powerpoint will conclude with a Kahoot to evalute student's understanding. If
necessary there will be more practice and reteaching.
The teachers will explain to the student with the holiday season fast approaching, their help will
be needed to plan a Turkey Dinner fit for a team! The student will be calculating proportions,
EXTENSION:
This lesson can be extended for various other scenarios regarding shopping where rates,
proportions, sales tax, commison and percent of change can be applied. Students will plan a
Turkey Dinner while calculating ratios, proportions, percents, discount, percent of change, sales
tax and commission.The student and teachers will together complete parts one to three, four if
time permits and the student will complete the rest of the sheet for homework.
