BS 4533-102.9:1990
This Section of BS 4533 has been prepared under the direction of the Electrical
Illumination Standards Policy Committee and is the English language version
of EN 60598-2-9 Luminaires Part 2: Particular requirements
Section 9: Photo and film luminaires (non-professional) including
amendment A1, published by the European Committee for Electrotechnical
Standardization (CENELEC). It was adopted by that organization from
IEC Publication 598-2-9:1987 edition 2 and Amendment No. 1 (1993), which is
identical with the European Standard. This Section of BS 4533 supersedes
BS 4533-102.9:1981, which is withdrawn.
The foreword and preface of IEC Publication 598-2-9:1987 edition 2, which do not
form part of the text of EN 60598-2-9, have been quoted in a national appendix,
Annexes designated normative are part of the body of the standard. Annexes
designated informative are given for information only. National appendices are
designated informative.
In 9.1, 9.2, 9.12 and 9.13 where the words section of Part 2 of
IEC Publication 598, section of Part 2 and section of Publication 598-2
appear they should be read as section of BS 5433. In 9.1 and 9.2 where Part 1
appears this should be read as Part 101. Where the words Publication 598-1
appear they should be read as BS 4533-101.
Cross-references. Details of other international publications quoted in this
standard are given in Annex ZA. Where there are British Standards
corresponding to these International Standards the relationship is given in
National appendix NB.
Product certification. Users of this British Standard are advised to consider
the desirability of third party certification of product conformity with this British
Standard based on testing and continuing surveillance, which may be coupled
with assessment of a suppliers quality systems against the appropriate Part
of BS 5750.
Enquiries as to the availability of third party certification schemes will be
forwarded by BSI to the Association of Certification Bodies. If a third party
certification scheme does not already exist, users should consider approaching an
appropriate body from the list of Association members.
The foreword of the EN amendment A1 makes reference to the date of
withdrawal (dow) of conflicting national standards as 1995-04-01. In this case
the relevant national standard is BS 4533-102.9 but the dow relates only to
those parts of the British Standard subject to Amendment No. 1. Certificates and
marks will not be awarded after this date with respect to the British Standard not
incorporating Amendment No. 1. They will be awarded with respect only to the
amended British Standard. However, such certificates and marks already
awarded with respect to the British Standard not incorporating
Amendment No. 1 may continue to apply for production until 2000-04-01.
A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a
contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application.
Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity
from legal obligations.

minimum resting time
the maximum operating time and minimum resting
time between operating periods at rated voltage
assigned to the luminaire by the manufacturer
9.3.2
low-pressure tungsten halogen lamp
tungsten halogen lamp having a working gas
pressure below 105 Pa (1 bar)
NOTE 1 In order to ensure non-interchangeability, the
low-pressure lamps are longer than tungsten halogen
photographic lamps having a working gas pressure
above 105 Pa (1 bar).
NOTE 2 The packaging of low-pressure lamps is provided with
a marking indicating clearly that it contains one or more
low-pressure tungsten halogen lamps.
9.5 Marking
The provisions and position of marking of Section 3
of IEC 598-1 apply together with the requirements
of subclauses 9.5.1 to 9.5.5.
9.5.1 Luminaires not designed for continuous
operation shall be marked either on the luminaire or
on a label attached to the supply cord supplied with
the luminaire, with the rated maximum operating
time or, if applicable, with the rated maximum
operating time and rated minimum resting time.
9.1 Scope
9.6 Construction
The provisions of Section 4 of Publication 598-1
apply together with the requirements of
Sub-clauses 9.6.1 to 9.6.3.
9.6.1 Each lamp circuit in the luminaire shall be
individually fused.
9.6.2 Safety screens
9.6.2.1 Luminaires incorporating other than
low-pressure tungsten halogen lamps:
A safety screen shall be fitted to a luminaire
incorporating halogen lamps other than
low-pressure tungsten halogen lamps to provide
protection against the effects of a shattering lamp.
NOTE Requirements relating to the construction of the screen
are given in Appendix A.
