Observation Task 5: A day in the life of a lower

level learner
Focus: On the learner.
The first day you will observe a lower level learner. The second
day you will observe a higher level learner.
Objective: For student teachers to gain an initial understanding of how learners
are different.

For this observation, you will begin by observing


the class for 1 hour.
1. What do you notice? Does the class have any strengths or weaknesses?

Yes , it does . There are different skills between them , for


instance , some of
them are good in matching pictures of fruits but others
they weaknesses in
matching .
However , some of them excellent in sort the letter in correct words ,
but other they
didn't have ability to know the correct letter to put in word required .

2. Are there learners who finish activities quickly? What do they do when
they have finished?

Yes , there are . they doing some activity three times , or


share activity .
3. Are there learners who do not finish a task(s)? How does the teacher deal
with them?

Yes , there are . Teacher set with he and asking some


questions , for example , what is this word , how we can
write the letter ? . Then she handle the pencil with he to
draw the letter in correct way .
4. Are there any learners with special needs? How does the teacher meet
their needs?

No , there isn't
5. How does the teacher manage learners with different levels/abilities?

In groups she divide them from low to high . in general using encourage
words , like , very good , my dear , you are polite today, you can do it , you
are an active child .

When you have made your notes, ask the teacher to


help you choose a lower level or a higher level learner
in the class.
Observe one of the learners for the rest of the day and
make notes.

sun, palm trees , trees , flowers , bee , butterfly
and , bird.

They were very happy , surprised to see the


picture of dinosaur.

1. How many different activities did the learner do?

three activity .
2. How did s/he interact with the other learners throughout the day?
help them , encourage them , using nice words , like , good , well done .
3. What was the longest period of time the learner spent focusing on one
activity?
It was drawing plants , flower , sun , bee ,trees , birds and
vehicle .
4. What did the learner do during the break times?
play in the pitch and , playground inside the kindergarten .
5. What did the learners attention span / interest during activities seem
like?
In this lesson the organisms and not live .According to Jean Piaget :(claimed that
this stage was characterized by orderly thinking and mastery of logical thought .
Children can manipulate abstract ideas ,make hypotheses and see the implications of
their thinking and that of others .
6. What did the learner seem to like doing the most / least during the day?
drawing plants , organism , insects , sun , birds and , water.
