Detail Procedure:
1. Verify Automatic Transfer Switch identification matches work order.
NOTE: Both normal and emergency sources must be available and the emergency
source generator (if used) must be capable of being started in this
procedure.
2. Verify the Transfer Switch Connected To Normal and Normal Source Accepted lights are
on.
3. Turn and hold Transfer Control switch clockwise to Transfer Test until the engine starts
and runs (within 15 sec.).
NOTE: Emergency Source Accepted light should come on.
4. Verify the Transfer Switch Connected To Emergency light comes on and Load Connected
to Normal light goes off.
NOTE: Transfer switch will operate to the Emergency position after time delay.
5. Verify the Transfer switch operates back to Normal position after time delay.
5.1 To immediately retransfer the switch, turn Transfer Control Switch counterclockwise to
Retransfer Delay Bypass.
NOTE: The enginegenerator will stop after the time delay (unloaded running
engine cool down). The Emergency Source Accepted light should go off.
The Transfer Switch Connected To Normal light should come on;
Transfer Switch Connected to Emergency light should go off.
**This completes the Functional Test of the ATS**

6.
7.

Lockout / Tagout per RI-9900.

De-energize the primary and alternate sources of power.
WARNING: HAZARDOUS VOLTAGES CAPABLE OF CAUSING SHOCK, BURNS, OR DEATH
IS USED IN THIS SWITCH AND IS IMMEDIATELY DANGEROUS TO LIFE AND HEALTH
(IDLH).
8. Clean the ATS enclosure.
8.1 Brush and vacuum away any excessive dust accumulation.
8.2 Remove any moisture with a clean cloth
9. Inspect the transfer switch contacts.
9.1 Remove the transfer switch barriers.
9.2 Check contact condition.
9.3 Replace contacts if they become pitted or worn excessively.
9.4 Reinstall barriers carefully.
10. Torque all connections to manufacture recommendations or per Torque Standard 401J5012.
11. Measure and record primary source contact resistance (50 micro-ohms, maximum, and within
25% of other phases) with primary source contacts in the closed position.
NOTE: Use test voltages and minimum insulation values given in Figure 1.
13. Perform Insulation Resistance Test on primary for one minute.
13.1 Record readings on data sheet.
14. Perform Insulation Resistance Test on the alternate for one minute.
14.1 Record readings on data sheet.
15. Repeat test for all primary and alternate source terminals with primary source contacts closed
(and five terminals not under test tied together and grounded).
