MONTHLY PLANNING
SEPTEMBER
MAIN TOPIC: ME, MYSELF AND I
SUBTOPICS: Family members, where we live, where we study, what we enjoy.
Es la bienvenida de los nios a English Pitinglish. En este primer mes nos centraremos en
conocer a los nios, sus intereses y su familia. Haremos actividades centradas en hablar de
ellos mismos, lo que les gusta y poder coger ideas para posibles futuras actividades segn
sus gustos.
MAIN ACTIVITY
Children from 3 to 7:
Create our own family portrait writing the name of each family member and show it to out
friends. We will use vocabulary
Materials: a cardboard for each child, pencils or markers of different colours.
Children from 8 to 16:
Create our own family tree and write who is who using related vocabulary: sister, brother,
siblings, parents, uncle, aunt, grandmother, etc.

COOKING ACTIVITY
Bake a child shaped cookie decorating it with icing. Each child will decorate its cookie
according to how they look like.

Children from 3 to 6 years:


Mirror
With a bit of aluminium foil we cover a piece of cardboard and we decorate the border with a
bit of glitter. Finally we take a look at ourselves on it, at the same time we describe the
children on the mirror.

Family memory game


We draw a pair of drawing for each family member: mother, father, brother, sister, aunt,
uncle, grandma, grandpa. We ask the children to colour them. Once they are coloured they
are placed face down on the floor and they turn them over one by one trying to memorize the
pair.
Children from 7 years:
What is my favourite..?
We ask questions about favourite things such as: food, animals, favourite person (or best
friend), favourite toy.We take turns and then we ask each other about what someone else
said. Example: What is Anas favourite animal? Rise your hand if you remember it!
Who is who?
We start to describe a child who is present and the person who guesses it right wins the
game.

Each child decorates a piece of paper. They can write the following questions for each child
to answer.

OBJECTIVES FOR THIS TOPIC

BASIC LEARNERS

To learn basic vocabulary related to it such as the pronouns Me, I, You, He, She,
We, They.
Learn vocabulary related to our families: father, mother, brother, sister, grandma,
grandpa, etc.
ADVANCED LEARNERS

Use basic structures to describe ourselves: I am, I have, My hair is, My eyes are.
Practice the order of qualifiers with adjectives: short, brown, hair.

OCTOBER
MAIN TOPIC: HALLOWEEN
SUBTOPICS: scary stories for children, halloween traditions.
MAIN ACTIVITY

Children from 3 to 6:

Creating scary Halloween masks with paper plates.


Materials: Paper plates (as many as the number of children in the classroom), scissors,
black wool, pens, paint, glue, elastic lace and cardboard to complemet the designs. We can
show them examples to burst their crativity.

Children from 7 to 12:

Creating spider webs and spiders with paper plates, black paint, black wool, scissors,
googly eyes and pipe cleaners. For the weaving we can put some sellotape in one end of the
wool.

COOKING ACTIVITY

Children from 3 to 6:

Ghost cupcakes
Ingredients: Cupcake mix, white fondant, chocolate to make the ghosts marks.

Children from 7 to 12

Witches fingers
Ingredients: butter, powdered sugar, large egg, vanilla extract, all-purpose flour, salt, whole
blanched almonds, red decorator gel.

Play feel the box/bag: get different objects or materials in boxes or bags, some of
them must be gross (wet, slimy, etc.). Make them touch the objects without seeing the
content and try to guess it.
Children from 7 :
Advanced memory game I Went Into a Haunted House: sit in a circle. Student A says "I
went into the haunted house and saw a witch". Student B continues: "I went into the
haunted house and saw a witch and a black cat". Continue around the circle until
someone fails to continue the list or doesnt remember it.
Watch Michael Jacksons thriller and comment what they see.
Create a Spooky Story with the children, all together. They will later write it down to
keep it.

OBJECTIVES FOR THIS TOPIC
BASIC LEARNERS

Getting familiar with descriptive adjectives related to the topic such as dark, pointy,
sharp, nasty, creepy, spiky, furry, squishy or gross.
Start using the following related nouns: witch, wolf, monster, skeleton, vampire,
costume,mummy, pumpkin, ghost, mask and haunted house. Get to know the
most common traditions during halloween.
ADVANCED LEARNERS

Work the vocabulary for basic users. Talk and discuss treat or treating with the
children and help them build basic structures such as: I want to, I like., I dont
like (dislike)..., I can do. They can practice more advanced structures such as I
went into the haunted house and saw. Talk about their favourite spooky
character and use descriptive adjectives building up their vocabulary.

NOVEMBER
MAIN TOPIC: AUTUMN
SUBTOPIC: the harvest, colour change

glue, scissors.

Fall leaves luminaria
We will need Fall-colored tissue paper, glue, Scissors, Glass jar, Fresh leaves in autumn
colors, Candle, Tape. We need to ask the parents to get autumn leaves with the children
the week before and a glass jar (recycled) to prepare this activity.

Discovering autumn fruits: bring autumn fruits such as persimmon, apple, date, berries
and try them describing the smell and flavour to the children.

The harvest: with some paper the children draw autumn fruits, then they cut them and place
them on a bag. One of the children hides the fruits around the room while the others count to 20.
Then they all start to search and the child who hide it helps them saying cold or hot depending on
how close they are to the fruits.

Play-dough autumn fruits: following the recipe for play-dough we create autumn fruits of
differents colours and we can add some spices such as cinnamon, paprika, etc. The children
will try to guess the fruit the other made.

OBJECTIVES FOR THIS TOPIC
BASIC LEARNERS

Use colours to describe nature. Learn the names of the autumn fruits and animals.
Fruits: apple, berries, figs, grapes, pears, pomegranate. Animals: squirrel, owl, fox,
edgehog. Learn and use those basic verbs related to the topic: fall, change, find,
collect.
ADVANCED LEARNERS

Apart from using the basic vocabulary in the classroom we will discuss about the
changes in nature during autumn using the following structure: I enjoy autumn
because .. and what is your favourite season?, My favourite season is..
We will practice the use of the following words: look, watch, pick, harvest, leaves
and rake.
