NAEYC Statement of Commitment

As an individual who works with young children, I, Vicky Vela Garcia, commit myself to
furthering the values of early childhood education as they are reflected in the ideals and
principles of the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct. To the best of my ability I will:
- Never harm children
- Ensure that programs for young children are based on current knowledge and
research of child development and early childhood education
- Respect and support families in their task of nurturing children
- Respect colleagues in early childhood care and education and support them in
maintaining the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct
- Serve as an advocate for children, their families, and their teachers in
community and society
- Stay informed of and maintain high standards of professional conduct
- Engage in an ongoing process of self-reflection, realizing that personal
characteristics, biases, and beliefs have an impact on children and families
- Be open to new ideas and be willing to learn from the suggestions of others
- Continue to learn, grow, and contribute as a professional
- Honor the ideals and principles of the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct
Ethical Responsibilities to Children
Each child in my classroom or any child that I come across too will always be
respected and valued. For example, I will ensure that each and one of my students that
can recognize their cultures, language, and family structure. It is important for the child
to understand where they come from and not be discourage of who they are. That is
why I will let the children speak about their cultural to the class. For instant, to work
with families to provide a safe and smooth transition as children and families move from
one program to the next. Parents and teachers should work together to create a safe
environment for the students. The children are the first person the parents and
teachers should about think about.
Ethical Responsibilities to Families
The families are always the most important people in the childrens life. The
parents are the first and most important teachers to their children. Family involvement
is the key to success when having their child in the class with you. The parents should
always know what is occurring with their child from good or bad news. It is important
that the teacher welcomes the families to the program or classroom. I believe that the

family and instructor should gain a strong relationship with one and other because the
child is the one that needs it. I will respect the parents and keep them in the loops with
events or special occasions. I will encourage the parents to take workshops that are
available to increase their knowledge of early childhood. I will always be here for the
parents if they need anything.
Ethical Responsibilities to Colleagues
Working with a team is important because everyone should be in the same page
to meet all the childrens needs. Every teacher should be professional any avoid any
type problems at work. It is important to have a supportive productive work
environment. Also in the conduct of ethic it states that We shall not participate in
practices that discriminate against a co-worker because of sex, race, national origin,
religious beliefs or other affiliations.
Responsibilities to co-workers
I believe it is important to separate personal like with work life because at times
it can cause issues at work. It is important to establish and maintain relationships of
respect, trust, confidentially, collaboration and cooperation with co-workers. When a coworker needs help or advice their colleagues should be willing to help. I believe it is
better for a work environment to avoid gossiping and trash talking their other coworkers. For example, co-workers should be there for one another when they need that
extra push.
Responsibilities to employers
I believe that it is important to assist the programs in providing the highest
quality of service. We are employees must complete the needs for the employers and
make them feel welcomed always. For example, I will constantly ask the employers if
they need anything from me. We shall speak or act on behalf of an organization only
when authorized.
Responsibilities to employees
The employees may promote safe and healthy working conditions and policies
that foster mutual respect, cooperation, collaboration, competence, well-being,
confidentiality, and self-esteem in staff member. The employees must maintain trust
within each other. The employees must have that trust therefore another employee can
let them know in what they need to improve in.
Ethical Responsibilities to Community and Society
It is important to be involve with your community because that is when the work
force is involving the community as well. For example, working at a Catholic School, we
invite the community out to our school to complete task with our school. For example,

we have a St. Vincent the Paul food bank going on at our school and we invite the
families to bring in food for the ones in need. Lots of families help and the community
comes together and can do it together. We must give a good example to our students
to reach out and ask for help when needed and be willing to open up and be involve
with the community.
Individual
As individuals, we shall be able to communicate openly and truthfully about the
nature and extent of services that we provide. When noticing an incident at any time
when working with children, the educator should report and violations of law to keep
the children protected. In depends on the situation when the educator can ask
questions or just write everything he/she hears.
Collective
When policies are enacted for purposes that do not benefit children, we have a
collective responsibility to work to change these practices. Every educator should have
their fingerprint clearances, food handlers card, CRP and First aid certificate as well. We
shall complete every task and be responsible to report a problem to appropriate
authorities or to the public.
