NetBackup 7.6 Pricing and Licensing Changes

This document is intended to serve as a reference on pricing and licensing changes for NetBackup 7.6 as compared with the
previous release NetBackup 7.5. All pricing should be obtained from the latest published regional price list.
Overall, the pricing and licensing changes with NetBackup 7.6 were intended to accomplish the following:

Simplify NetBackup licensingseveral components have been discontinued and are now bundled with either the base
product or other optional components.
Reduce the price of deduplication technology as deduplication becomes a key element in modern architectures, we
want to improve access to this technology.
Reduce the price of our premium features (e.g. NetBackup Accelerator)as backups based on change-tracking
technologies gradually become more common, we want to improve access to this technology.

Changes to Platform Base (capacity) Licensing

For an identical configuration, the changes to Platform Base licensing in NetBackup 7.6 should either result in a decrease in
licensing and renewal MSRP or an increase in functionality for the same MSRP.

Data Protection Optimization Add-on now included in Platform Basein NetBackup 7.5, customers requiring advanced
features such as intelligent deduplication and Accelerator were required to purchase a separate add-on in addition to
purchasing the Platform Base license. This advanced functionality is now included as part of the Platform Base (both
editions). The MSRP for Platform Base remains unchanged from NetBackup 7.5.
Legacy Infrastructure Licenses upgraded to Platform Basefor a small number of customers who purchased capacity
licensing under the Infrastructure SKUs, these licenses will be upgraded to Platform Base Complete Edition.

Changes to Standard (traditional) Licensing

For an identical configuration, the changes to Standard licensing in NetBackup 7.6 will have mixed results depending on the
quantities of EDO and DPOO purchased. Some customers will see a reduction in their licensing and renewal MSRP while others
will see an increase in functionality accompanied by an increase in MSRP. All customers will now have easier access to
premium features available in NetBackup 7.6.

Enterprise Disk Option (EDO) discontinuedin order to simplify and normalize NetBackup licensing throughout all
channels and buying programs, we have decided to discontinue EDO and consolidate all premium disk-based
functionality within a single option: Data Protection Optimization Option (DPOO).
MSRP for DPOO reduced by 40%to mitigate the potential negative impacts of these licensing changes on some
customers and increase access to premium functionality, we have decided to reduce the MSRP for DPOO by 40%.

Cloud storage connectorsbackup to a growing list of cloud service providers as a target for backup storage. Storage
Lifecycle Policies make it easy to use cloud storage as a primary or secondary (archive) backup target.
Advanced Diskallocate commodity disk storage for backup, using water marks to automate space management and
load balance to avoid bottlenecks.
Optimized duplicationperform duplication of primary backup images to secondary backup targets based on changes,
reducing required resources, bandwidth, and time.
Optimized syntheticsassemble equivalent full backup images from prior backups and new changes, eliminating the
need for traditional, time-consuming full backups. Optimized synthetics are created in flight, not as a post-process.
Storage Lifecycle Policiesautomate the movement of backup across tiers of storage, from a primary disk or appliance
backup target to an archive target such as tape or cloud, or to a DR site.
NEW! Accelerator for VMwarethe benefits of Accelerator are now available for VMware backups, dramatically
improving performance.
NEW! Targeted Auto Image Replication (AIR)accomplish one-to-many and many-to-one backup replication for
practically unlimited DR possibilities.
NEW! Storage Lifecycle Policy (SLP) schedulingfurther customize the automation of your snapshot replication and
image duplication tasks, postponing these tasks to more convenient times or periods of inactivity.

Next Steps
With the release of NetBackup 7.6, this may be a good time to review some opportunities that are now available to you.

Refresh media servers with NetBackup Appliancefor customers on Platform Base licensing, they now have access to
all deduplication features as part of the base license. This may present a good opportunity to refresh your NetBackup
infrastructure with the NetBackup 5200 Series.
Consider capacity-based licensing (Platform Base) with the changes to licensing in NetBackup 7.6, it may be a good
time to review the Platform Base license model to see if you can realize more value. Our Value Management Office can
