MCT Formal Lesson Observations Feedback

Student teachers name: Aesha Abdulla
Year FS1
Unit/Lesson: Healthy/unhealthy food

Grade Level:
and their effect on teeth

Date: 9th November, 2016

Grade: A

Strengths of the lesson:

Good salutation.
Good preparation!
Good introduction to grab students attention (crying baby with a tootache).
Nice pass the teddy game which made students interested and gave them an opportunity to help Teddy

choose healthy and unhealthy food from the box and put them in the happy or sad tooth box
After this the explore phase of the lesson included many stations including counting the number of teeth,
preparing a real salad, making cut outs of healthy foods with play dough or pictures or by drawing and putting
them on a plate.
Good use of seat work to assess students understanding of the topic.

The intent of the plan is clear and there is sufficient detail

Good wrap-up by shaking tambourine and getting students back onto the carpet for closure.
Good classroom management
Areas for development:
Why do some foods make our teeth unhappy? Is it the sugar content? This would be a great point to teach the

children so that they would be able to identify unknown foods

Remember that your focus for this lesson is on reading so that you could have incorporated a story about an
unhealthy tooth and healthy/unhealthy food.
Remember to take your time and develop the students understanding of the LO whilst they are on the carpet
by giving them opportunities to discuss their thoughts within the group.
