Safety Instructions......................................................................................................1-2
Note
ZTE Corporation does not bear any liabilities incurred because of violation of the
universal safety operation requirements, or violation of safety standards for designing,
manufacturing and using the equipment.
Meaning
No smoking: Smoking is forbidden
No flammables: No flammables can be stored.
No touching: Do not touch.
1-1

Safety Symbols
Meaning
Universal alerting symbol: General safety attentions.
Electric shock: Risk of electric shock.
Electrostatic: The device may be sensitive to static electricity.
Microwave: Beware of strong electromagnetic field.
Laser: Beware of strong laser beam.
Scald: Beware of scald.
Amongst these safety symbols, the universal alarm symbols are classified into three levels:
danger, warning, and caution. The formats and meanings of the three levels are described
as below:
Danger
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or
serious injury of people, or equipment damages and breakdown.
Warning
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or
serious injury.
Caution
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in serious
injuries, equipment damages or interruption of part services.
1-2
SJ-20100426162420-004|20100430
Tools
Use special tools rather than common tools for high-voltage and AC operations.
High Voltage
Danger
High voltage is hazardous. Direct or indirect contact with high voltage or main supply
using a wet object could result in death.
Do not wear any watch, hand chain, bracelet, ring or any other conductive objects
during such operations.
Power Cable
Warning
Never install or uninstall power cables while they are live. Otherwise, the power cable,
when contacting a conductor, may result in sparks or electric arc causing a fire or even
damage to eyes.
Make sure of shutting off power supply before installing or disconnecting a power
cable.
Before connecting the power cable, make sure that the connecting cable and its
label are appropriate for the actual installation requirements.
Drilling Holes
Warning
It is not allowed to drill cabinet holes without permission.
Unqualified drilling could damage wiring and cables inside the cabinet.
Additionally, metal pieces inside the cabinet created by the drilling could result
in a short circuit. Use insulation protection gloves and first move cables inside a
cabinet away when drilling is necessary on a cabinet.
1-3
SJ-20100426162420-004|20100430
Protect eyes during drilling as dust or flying debris may damage eyes.
Lightning
Danger
Do not perform high-voltage, AC, iron tower or mast operations in a thunderstorm.
l
l
l
l
l
Friction caused by human body activities is the root cause of electrostatic charge
accumulation. Static voltage carried by a human body in a dry environment can be
up to 30 kV, and can remain there for a long time. An operator with static electricity
may discharge electricity through a component when he/she touches the conductor
and causing damage.
Wear an antistatic wrist strap (the other end of wrist strap must be well grounded)
before touching the equipment or holding a plug-in board, circuit board, Integrated
Circuit (IC) chip or other devices, to prevent human static electricity from damaging
sensitive components.
A resistor over 1 M should be connected in series on the cable between the antistatic
wrist strap and the grounding point, to protect the operator against accidental electric
shock. Resistance over 1 M is low enough to discharge static voltage.
The antistatic wrist strap used must be subject to regular check. Do not replace the
cable of an antistatic wrist strap with any other cables.
Do not contact static-sensitive modules with any object that easily generates static
electricity. For example, friction of package bag, transfer box and transfer belt made
from insulation plastic may cause static electricity on components. Discharge of static
electricity may damage components when they contact a human body or the ground.
Modules should only contact materials such as an antistatic bag. Keep modules in
antistatic bags during storage and transportation.
Discharge static electricity of the test device before use, that is, ground the test device
first.
Do not place the module near a strong DC magnetic field, such as the cathode-ray
tube of a monitor. Keep the module at least 10 cm away.
1-4
SJ-20100426162420-004|20100430
Ensure the hoister can meet hoisting requirements when disassembling heavy equipment, or moving and replacing equipment.
The installation personnel must be duly trained and qualified for hoisting operations.
Hoisting tools must be inspected and complete before service.
Make sure that hoisting tools are fixed firmly on a sufficiently secured object or wall
before the hoisting operation.
Give brief oral instructions during hoisting operations to prevent any mishap.
Unplugging/Plugging a Module
l
l
l
Never plug a module with excessive force, to ensure that the pins on the backplane
do not get deformed.
Plug the module right into the slot and make sure module circuit faces do not contact
each other lest any short circuit may occur.
Keep hands off the module circuit, components, connectors and cable trough when
holding a module.
l
l
Perform an airtight test before RRU delivery, and prohibit disassembling the RRU on
site.
Replacing any parts or making any changes to the equipment might result in an
unexpected danger. Therefore, be sure not to replace any parts or perform any
changes to the equipment unless authorized otherwise.
Due to that RRU is in high temperature during running, the RRU should be installed
in some regions out of operators' reach or strictly restricted.
Contact ZTE office if you have any question, to ensure your safety.

If the network cable is used to connect DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) and DCE (Data
Circuit Terminating Equipment), straight Ethernet cable is adopted. If the network cable is
used to connect DTE and DTE, cross-over Ethernet cable is adopted, as shown in Figure
10-1.
Figure 10-1 Wiring Arrangement of Straight/Cross-Connect Ethernet Cable
Steps
1. Use electrical knife or twisted pair stripper to peel off about 20 mm of external sheath
at network cable end to expose four wire pairs.
2. Arrange wire pairs of the cable. Matching sequence of wire pairs is 12, 36, 5 4,
7 8, as shown in Figure 10-2. As the connector bending may damage the wire pairs
inside the sheath, at least 8 mm of wires inside the sheath must be arranged parallel
to each other, forming a flat part. The remaining crossing part of the wires is oval.
10-2
SJ-20100426162420-004|20100430
3. Untwist the exposed wires to make them parallel to each other. Matching sequence
of wire pairs is the same as in Step 2, except that positions of Wire 6 and Wire 4 are
exchanged. In the cable sheath, untwisted wires should not exist, as shown in Figure
10-3.
4. After trimming the wire (to keep the wires neat without flying wires), the length of
exposed wires is about 14 mm. No crossing should exist at the cable end of (101)
mm, estimated from the end of exposed wire. Positions of Wire 6 and Wire 4 are
exchanged within 4 mm out from sheath end, as shown in Figure 10-4.
10-3
SJ-20100426162420-004|20100430
5. Before mounting RJ-45 connector to the network cable, Sheathe the cable with 8P8C
sleeve. The direction arrangement of 8P8C sleeve is shown in Figure 10-5.
6. Insert the wires at End A into RJ-45 connector. Ensure that all wires reach the
innermost of the RJ-455 crystal head, where wire copper core can be seen. The
wrapped length of RJ-45 crystal head in 8P8C sleeve should be at least 6 mm, as
shown in Figure 10-6.
7. Crimp the RJ-45 connector with the special crimping pliers to make the pins of RJ45
connector in good contact with wires. If the spring plate of RJ-45 connector is not
in place, its high position may damage the RJ-45 socket. As specified in the FCC
standards, the crimped depth of the spring plate of RJ-45 connector should be between
5.89 mm ~ 6.15 mm, as shown in Figure 10-7.
10-4
SJ-20100426162420-004|20100430
8. Slightly pull the network cable to see if the RJ-45 connector is tightly crimped to the
network cable. The crimped cable end is shown in Figure 10-8.
9. Sheathe the RJ-45 connector with 8P8C sleeve, as shown in Figure 10-9.
10. Follow Step 1~9 to make the other end of the cable according to the wiring
requirements of network cable. After making both cable ends, label the network
cable, as shown in Figure 10-10.

End of Steps
Follow-Up Action
Test the cable quality after cable-making.
1. Use network cable tester to check the wiring arrangement at both cable ends. Check
if open circuit, short circuit, or bad contact exists.
2. Check whether the crimping depth of the spring plate of RJ-45 connector meets the
requirements. For unqualified depth, remake the cable.
Note
In this topic, the making of E1 cable (on cable end is CC4Y-J32 connector; the other cable
end is the coaxial connector intended for DDF) is presented as an example. The cable
processing method can be used as a reference when making other cables and connectors.
Steps
1. Make CC4Y-J32 Connector of E1 Cable.
a. CC4Y-J32 RF coaxial connector components, as shown in a) of Figure 10-11.
b. Apply heat shrink tube, Component 1, and Component 2 onto the cable. Peel off
the sheath at cable end to expose core wire. Apply tin to the core wire. Unfold
the shielding layer so that the crimped part of the connector can be inserted, as
shown in b) of Figure 10-11.
10-6
SJ-20100426162420-004|20100430
c.
After soldering the core wire, Component 2 and Component 3 are jointed together,
as shown in c) of Figure 10-11.
d. Install Component 1, and use a special tool to crimp it, as shown in d) of Figure
10-11.
e. Apply the heat shrink tube to the crimped Component 1. Use a hot-air dryer to
heat up the tube so that the tube is fixed together with the component.
Cable-Making Method
a. Peel off 14 mm sheath, as shown in a) of Figure 10-13.
10-7
SJ-20100426162420-004|20100430
b. Put onto the cable the following items in turn: cable end sleeve, heat shrink tube,
and crimping tube. Turn the shielding net inside out manually or with a net-lifting
tool. Peel off the inner insulation layer to expose 3 mm inner conductor, as shown
in b) of Figure 10-13.
c.
Inset the processed cable end to the cable connector. Make sure that core wire
should thrust into the solder pin of the inner conductor. Then solder the joint
together and trim the shielding net. The remaining length of the shielding net is 6
mm, as shown in c) of Figure 10-13.
d. Inset the crimping pipe and shielding net deep into the cable connector, as shown
in d) of Figure 10-13.
e. Use a crimping plier to press the crimping tube into a hexahedron, as shown in e)
of Figure 10-13.
f.
Apply the heat shrink tube to the crimped crimping tube. Use a hot-air dryer to
heat up the tube so that the tube is fixed together with the crimping tube. Finally
install the cable end sleeve, as shown in Figure 10-13.
3. Crimping tube
4. Crimping plier
The inner conductor and the external conductor of the two connectors of the trunk
cable work well. The inner conductor and external connector should not form short
circuit.
