INSTALLATION
TO UNPACK THE DOWNLOADED RAR FILES
Double-click the SC-Omnichord.rar file to extract the data.
If your computer is unable to extract the RAR file, please get Stuffit
Expander for Mac, or WinRAR for Windows, which are both free.
RAR files are highly compressed, so allow for quicker downloading than
other archive formats.

KONTAKT ( 3.5 OR LATER )

Copy the entire SC Omnichord folder anywhere you like on your hard
drive. Make sure you keep that folder structure as it is, so that the Kontakt
instruments can find their samples. (If you dont need the EXS24 instruments
you can erase that folder never erase the Samples folder ).

LOGIC EXS24
1. Move the included EXS Instrument file (.exs) called Omnichord to your
Sampler Instruments folder, which is located here:
user/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments
The first time you load either an Instrument, your Mac may take a moment to
find the waveforms it needs. After that, it will remember and load much
more quickly.
N.B. Keep a copy of the included Samples folder somewhere on your hard
drive. This folder has all the sample data that the EXS24 instruments need,
so keep it somewhere safe.

INTRODUCTION

An Omnichord is an electronic musical instrument, introduced in 1981 and

manufactured by the Suzuki Musical Instrument Corporation. It typically
features a touch plate, and buttons for major, minor, and diminished chords.
The most basic method of playing the instrument is to press the chord
buttons and swipe the touch plate with a finger or guitar pick in imitation of
strumming a stringed instrument.

The Omnichord we have sampled here is a System Two, and it has a great
synth tone, which sounds cheap in all the right ways. You can mix two
different tones, one straight, and one modulated with a basic LFO. While not
sounding much like a plucked string, it does have a pure character all its
own, which won it many fans, such as Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno, to name
but two.
Wed like to thank UK producer Neil Davidge for the loan of this particular
Omnichord unit.

INSTRUMENTS
KONTAKT INSTRUMENTS
Inside the SC Omnichord folder youll find a Kontakt folder with some preset
Instruments. You can load these into Kontakt by dragging them in, or else by
using the Load menu.
NB. You need a fully authorized version of Kontakt to use this library, it will
not work in the free Kontakt Player without timing out. Nor can you Add
Library with the Omnichord, since it is not a Kontakt Player encoded library.
There are several types of presets available, which all use the same preset
data.
The main functional difference between certain types of presets is the
Strummer mode.

THE KONTAKT FRONT PANELS

The Omnichord instrument contains two front panel tabs: Instrument, and
Effects.
Note that you can hover your mouse over any control to get Info
about its function if you have the Kontakt Info pane activated.

THE INSTRUMENT PANEL

The Instrument Tab is where you set up the strummer mode and the blend of
the Normal and Modulated tones. You can also set the Sustain (release) of
the instrument here.
THE KSP STRUMMER CONTROL
The Strummer mode is set with the drop down menu.
Strummer Mode can be set to Off, in which case you are just playing the
instrument normally, as you would any other MIDI instrument. (Note that the
range of the instrument is from F2 to D7.)
If Strummer Mode is set to Chords, the you need to move the strum
controller to hear any notes. The Chord that you hear is chosen by which
note you play and by which octave in which you play it. The Chords are
arranged as follows:

SONICCOUTURE OMNICHORD USER GUIDE

Major from C1-B1

Minor from C2-B2
Dominant 7th from C3-B3
Major 7th from C4-B4
Minor 7th from C5-B5
Augmented from C6-B6
Diminished from C7-B7
If the Strummer Mode is set to Free, then the strummer will strum any
combination of notes you hold down.
By default the strummer is set up to work with the Mod Wheel (CC1), but you
can change this with the Strum CC value.
Mute Input stops your input MIDI from being heard, this is usually on if the
strummer is active, but you can turn it off if you like.
Random adds some random velocity to the strum so it doesnt sound so
mechanical. You can adjust how much randomness to add.
The Display knob merely displays the position of the strum controller
(ModWheel), as a visual reference. It has no direct function.
Invert allows you to invert the direction of the strum CC (Mod Wheel).

THE EFFECTS PANEL

The Effect tab offers some controls over the effects section in Kontakt. Here
you have control over:
Compression - the threshold control of the built-in compressor
Saturation - a soft distortion effect, like tape saturation
Stereo - artificial width of stereo image (the Omnichord is naturally mono)
Delay - Kontakts built in delay level
Phaser - Kontakts Phaser, with controls for Speed and Feedback
Ensemble - is a detune/doubling effect
Reverb - which includes a level knob and a pull down menu of some of our
favourite convolution presets

EXS24 INSTRUMENT
After installing the Omnichord instrument (page 3 of this guide), you should
see a preset appear in your EXS24 menu next time you launch Logic:

There is no strummer function available in EXS24 - You can, however

adjust the modulation tone using the ModWheel.
