VSHOW 2017

Held on an annual basis, the Cambridge University Chinese


Society (CUCS) Variety Show is a flagship event of the
society. With almost every Hong Kong student at Cambridge
in attendance, the show attracts a 200-strong audience, and
requires the input of over 50 Hong Kong students in diverse
capacities.
The 2-hour variety show is centered around a play with various music and dance performances. The play is the headline
act of the show, with students wholly responsible for all
stages of production, from scriptwriting to acting and backstage technical support.
The Variety Show last year proved to be a big hit amongst
Cambridge Hong Kong students, as well as Chinese students
from other top London institutions. This year, we intend to
build upon previous successes and create a show of an
unprecedented scale, with teams specifically dedicated to
technical aspects such as lighting, props, music and special
effects, as well as the publicity work that is essential to the
shows success. We hope to deliver performances with great
professionalism and uphold the reputation built by our
predecessors in the past 30 years.

WHAT IS CUCS?

CUCS, the Cambridge University Chinese Society, is


the first China-related society set up at the University
of Cambridge;
Has over 1500 lifetime members across the
globe;
Has over 300 current student members
Aims to bridge the gap between modern
Eastern and Western communities
Provides a platform for Chinese students at
Cambridge University and beyond to interact,
bond and learn from each other.
OUR WORK
Organise a spectrum of activities ranging from
academic and careers- related events to social
functions during and outside of term time; and
Publish periodicals to current students and
alumni

300 current student members, your

relationship with CUCS and its members,

are known for their willingness to explore
and their commitment to excellence, and

acquiring practical experience, often by
working in any capacity with businesses
in partnership with CUCS. Moreover,

Charity

The variety show is run on a non-profit


basis. We have had a close relationship
with CHOICE (Cambridge Hong Kong
Operation for International Childrens
Education) and have always strived to
contribute to its cause of improving
childrens education in less developed
areas of the world, through minimising
our expenses and donating any surplus
to CHOICE. In the past 2 years, for
instance, volunteers with CHOICE have
visited Catdang village, Vietnam to teach
local students, and have raised around
US$20,000 to help fund a library in the

PRESENTATION RIGHTS
This prestigious form of advertising is
reserved solely for our Diamond sponsors.
The variety show will be named CUCS
Variety Show 2017 presented by (your
company). Your companys name will
appear in all of our promotional materials
and will be incorporated into our logo for the
2017 variety show.
ADVERTISING VIDEO BEFORE
BEGINNING OF THE SHOW
As a Diamond or Platinum sponsor, you
may provide us with a 30 second (platinum)
or 1 minute (diamond) video advertisement
which will be played before the show begins
but after all the audience is seated. You
may also choose to play this show during
the intermission. This is undoubtedly a
platform to showcase your business directly
to the entire audience at a much lower cost
than other video advertising channels.
MC ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The Emcee of the variety show will publicly
acknowledge and show our appreciation to
our Diamond, Platinum, and Gold sponsors
at the end of the variety show by reading out
the name of your company. Diamond and
Platinum sponsors are welcome to add a
brief description that will be read out with
your company name.
ADVERTISING IN THE PROGRAMME
All silver and above sponsors can place
their advertisements in the programme

booklet distributed to all actors, stagehands,


and members of the audience. The amount
of space allocated to each sponsor depends
on the tier level of the sponsor. With the
booklet being one of the most important
informative elements to a variety show, and
one that many audience members keep
after the show, sponsors can certainly
promote their businesses directly to
students. If necessary, our publicity team
can help our sponsors design
advertisements to be put into the
programme. Examples of previous designs
by Hong Kong students in Cambridge are
available on request.
ADVERTISING IN PERFORMANCE
VENUE
All silver and above sponsors can have their
advertisements printed out and put up in the
venue of the variety show on the day of the
performance.
CALENDARS
All Gold and above sponsors will have their
company names printed on 2017 calendars
which will be made specifically for the show.
Members of the audience and our sponsors
will be given copies of these promotional
calendars for free.
PROMOTIONAL MERCHANDISE
Sponsors of all tiers are also highly
encouraged to provide promotional
merchandise or sample products for
distribution to the audience, or for use in the
raffle planned for the end of the show.

T-SHIRTS

EMAIL MARKETING

We will print T-shirts (and possibly


hoodies) for all backstage crew members,
actors and actresses, committee members
and all those involved in the running of the
show. This will amount to around 50
people. Gold or above sponsors can have
their logos and names printed on the back
of the T-shirts. Except those involved in
acting with the need to wear costumes, all
other students involved in the production
will wear the T-shirts during the show.

CUCS has a mailing list of over 300


current students. Gold and above
sponsors will be able to submit an
advertisement that will be circulated in one
of our weekly newsletters until the variety
show.

SOCIAL MEDIA
The Cambridge University Chinese
Society and its affiliate, the Cambridge
University Hong Kong and Mainland China
Current Affairs Society, have a significant
presence on social media, especially
amongst Hong Kong students in the
United Kingdom. Sponsors can make use
of our forums such as Facebook to
promote their businesses, with the extent
of promotion dependent on your
sponsorship tier. We will set up an event
page that will be updated regularly with
information on our preparatory work,
ticketing, and actual event.
TRAILER
As part of the promotional efforts for the
variety show, we will publish a trailer
approximately 2 months before the show.
The trailer in 2016 attracted around 2000
views on YouTube. The trailer will also be
played in gatherings for the CambridgeHong Kong community.
Acknowledgement will be made for Silver
and above sponsors, with extent
dependent upon the sponsorship tier.

TICKETS
All Silver and above sponsors will have
their company names printed on the
tickets. Members of the audience, and in
particular, those involved in the production
of the show, often choose to keep the
tickets after the show.

POSTERS & LEAFLETS


A large number of posters will be
produced to promote the variety show,
and put up in various locations across
Cambridge as well as posted online in
various groups such as that of other UK
universities. Leaflets will also be
distributed. Silver and above sponsors will
be acknowledged on the posters and
leaflets, with the size of your companys
logo dependent upon the sponsorship tier
chosen. This is a good opportunity to
increase exposure of your company by
leveraging the publicity potential of other
sponsors.
PRODUCT PLACEMENT
For our Diamond or Platinum sponsors,
our scriptwriters will attempt to incorporate
the companies names or their products
into the script, or use products provided by
the companies as props during the play,
where possible
