Choir Program Policy

Welcome to the Choir! The success of a choir program is achieved by the respect and
effort given by its members. Every rehearsal, performance and event is not only a reflection of
yourself but of the choir, your school, and your school district as well. This music program is so
much more than just a choir: we are a unit, a team, a family. The additional rules included in the
band hand book are to ensure a successful and positive experience in this music activity.

Rehearsal Guidelines:
Enter the choir hall without disruptions and silently set up for rehearsal.
Only bring what is needed for rehearsal to your chair.
Students will be given until two minutes after tardy bell to be seated and ready to go with
appropriate materials.
Respect the ensemble by being silent during rehearsal, especially while the choir director
is addressing another section.
Raise your hand if you have a question in order to be addressed.
Be engaged, attentive and do not disrupt the rehearsal.
Maintain a proper singing posture during rehearsal.
When rehearsal is done, quietly and efficiently put away all materials.
Only your music related materials are allowed inside shelf.
Absolutely no food is allowed unless given prior permission.
Music must be taken home every day for individual practice.
Students are allowed to enter choir hall before and after school just as long as there are no
disruptions to ongoing rehearsals/sectionals.
Adhere to choir rules and Student Code of Conduct Handbook.
Rules

Be on time for every class, rehearsal, and sectional.

Be prepared with required materials: instrument, pencil, music, etc.
Respect your teachers and those in authority.
Respect your peers and work well with others.
If you have a question during class, please raise up your hand to be addressed.
Enter the room in an organized and appropriate manner. (If there is a rehearsal taking
place at the moment you enter, remain silent and without interruptions.)
Absolutely no running in the choir hall.
No disrespectful language or inappropriate behavior inside the choir hall.
Do not touch other music equipment/supplies that are not yours; i.e.: directors
metronome, tuner, podium, baton, etc. unless given permission.
No food, gum or drinks allowed inside the band hall. (Water is allowed but only if it is
properly sealed with a lid.)

Follow all rules enforced by the school code of conduct along with the rules of the choir
program.

Rewards Resulting in Good Behavior

Pick a Song day: On every other Friday, students that behave well will have their name
drawn out of a bucket. Whoever is chosen can pick a musical selection of their choice to
play either as a full ensemble OR a solo piece to be played on their own.
Movie Day: The ensemble who has shown the most improvement or proper conduct for
the month will be allowed a Movie day at the end of rehearsal where we will show a
video recording of a famous Singers, Choir Ensembles, Music Group for their learning
and music enjoyment.
Consequences

Address student with verbal warning.

Student will put materials away and no longer participate for 10 minutes.
Student will put materials away and no longer participate for the duration of the class.
Student/Teacher conference (Talked to and addressed after class/school)
Contact and call parent/guardian via email or phone.
Parent/Teacher conference to discuss student conduct.
Principal/front office meeting with student. (May result in referral or detention.)

Actions That Can Result In Dismissal of Choir Program

Disrespect towards authority, choir directors, teachers, and/or chaperones.

Intentional damage of others materials and/or equipment.
Physical/verbal fights with others during choir events/activities.
Use of alcohol and drugs in choir events/activities.
