Guatemala has three cellular

telephone providers, Tigo, Claro,
and Movistar. Tigo was formerly
known as Comcel. Claro is the
cellular phone division of Telgua.
Movistar is the cellular phone
division of Telefonica of Spain.
Collected here on this page are
the command and function codes
for each provider and how to use
them. Functions listed include all
those that we could find. They
range from checking for voice
messages, checking your
balance, enabling and disabling
various plans for SMS
messaging, and transfers of
credit, to Internet surfing and
many other functions, as well as
hints and notes that may help
you understand your charges and
use the services provided.
Note: In the following command
descriptions a plus sign (+) is
sometimes used as a separator
to make things easier to read.
But the plus sign is not actually
part of any command and must
be omitted.

Tigo

servicios prestados.
Nota: En las descripciones de
comandos, el signo plus (+) se
utiliza a veces como un
separador para hacer las cosas
ms fciles de leer. Pero el signo
"+" no es realmente parte de
ningun comando y debe omitirse.

*77 Retrieve Voicemail: Dial *77 and follow the voice prompts.

*77 Escuchar Correo de Voz: Marque *77 y siga las indicaciones de voz.

*256 Check Balance: Dial *256 and an automated voice will report your standard
balance, your bonus balance, and the total. OR send an SMS to 256 (no asterisk) with
just the word SALDO in all caps and you will get your balance info as a text message,
although sending a blank text message also works.

302 Send text message collect: You can send a collect text message to another Tigo
user. The recipient pays the charge if they accept. To do this send your text message to
302nnnnnnnn where nnnnnnnn is the recipient's phone number.

cobrar a otro usuario Tigo. El recipiente paga el cargo si lo acepta. Para ello debe enviar
el mensaje de texto a 302nnnnnnnn donde nnnnnnnn es el nmero de telfono del

303 Prepaid text message: You can send a text message to another Tigo user and
prepay their reply by prefixing 303 before their phone number. (303nnnnnnnn) The
recipient will receive your text message plus the text "(responde gratis)". The recipient
can then reply to your text message at no cost to them. After sending your message,
you will receive an SMS confirming that you just sent a prepaid message. Note: If the
other party replies, their message will have the 303 code prepended to their phone
number automatically, so if you then reply to their reply you will send another prepaid
message to them, costing you another Q0.40

303 Mensaje de texto prepagado: Usted puede enviar un mensaje de texto a otro

*326# Request transfer of credit from another: Send *326#+SND and you will get
an interactive screen requesting your friend's telephone number and the amount you are
requesting. Your friend will receive the request and if they agree, credit will be
transferred from their phone to yours. Only principal balance can be transferred.

*327 Transfer credit from one phone to another: Only real credit (principal
balance) can be transferred, not bonus credit.

Syntax: *327*8digitnumber*Q#+SND
Where Q is the amount of credit to transfer in quetzales. Permitted transfer amounts are
5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 quetzales. Don't forget the pound sign at the end before you hit
the SND key.

You will get a screen asking you to verify that you wish to do the transfer. Hit "respond"
then enter 1 for Yes or 2 for No. Afterwards you will receive a receipt via SMS and the
recipient will be notified with an SMS. Note: The recipient will be charged Q0.40 for the
transfer.

card to reveal the code. Then place a phone call to *333+card code+SND

800 Control special billing plans: By sending text commands via SMS to 800 you can
enable and disable special SMS messaging plans, Internet billing plans, and other
services.

Text messaging plans: Standard text (SMS) messages cost Q0.40. Plan BASICO
charges Q1 per day against your principal balance and gives you 5 SMS messages per
day at a cost of Q0.20 per message. Plan AFICIONADO gives 20 messages per day for
Q3.00. Plan FANATICO gives 100 messages per day for Q5.00. To enable these plans,
send a text message containing the word BASICO, AFICIONADO, or FANATICO to 800.
You will receive a confirming SMS message. Sending the word CANCELAR will produce
an interactive screen where you can cancel selected services.

Planes de mensajera de texto: Costo de un mensajito (SMS) es normalmente

Q0.40. El Plan BASICO cobra Q1 por da contra el saldo principal y le dan 5 mensajes
SMS o Q0.20 por mensaje. Plan AFICIONADO da 20 mensajes por da por Q3.00. Plan

Note: If you are changing from one SMS message plan to another you must first cancel
the current plan before selecting a different plan.

You can also control these services in an interactive manner by sending the word MENU
to 800. This will put you into a menu driven interface where you can select and control
various services.

Plan Amigo: You can enable Plan Amigo by sending the word AMIGO to 800. Plan
Amigo is an additional bonus offered to those who use their phones more than just a few
minutes a month. If you enable Plan Amigo, you have up to 30 days to spend Q125.00
from your principal balance. If you reach Q125, you are rewarded with 360 minutes of
special bonus credit for calling other Tigo phones and 1,000 SMS messages, both with a
lifetime of 7 days. As soon as you reach Q125.00 the process immediately starts again
so as soon as you spend another Q125 you win the bonus again. If you do not reach
Q125 in 30 days, the count resets and you restart from zero.

Plan Amigo: Para activar el Plan Amigo envia un mensajito con la palabra AMIGO a
800. Plan Amigo es un beneficio adicional que ofrece a aquellos que utilizan sus telfonos

From time to time Tigo offers "triple days". This means that if you add money to your
prepaid phone (una recarga) on that day then you'll get triple credit. But there are
several things that you need to know about how this works, otherwise you might get the
impression that you were "ripped off".

Phones can be "reloaded" with money electronically at a phone store or by using phone
cards with scratch off secret codes. All triple days give triple credit on electronic reloads
but only some triple days give triple for phone card reloads. If you are using cards you
have to check with a phone store or someone who knows if cards will give triple credit on
that day or not.

Your Tigo telephone account carries as many as four different kinds of credits: principal
balance, bonus or promotional balance, SMS messages, Plan Amigo Tigo-to-Tigo bonus
minutes.

Su cuenta de telfono de Tigo lleva hasta cuatro tipos diferentes de crditos: saldo

Principal balance is the amount of real money you have on your account. This balance
never expires. If you put Q50 on the phone, the principal balance will increase by Q50
regardless of whether it's a triple day or not, or whether it's an electronic or card

Again, it doesn't matter what your bonus credits are.

Bonus or promotional balance is just what it says, it is credit that you earned or won
from various bonus offers or on triple days. Continuing with the example above, if you go
into a phone store on a triple day and buy Q50 in credit, your principal balance will
increase by Q50 and your bonus balance will increase by Q100, so there's your triple
credit. However, bonus balance has expiration dates associated with the various amounts
that are credited according to the size of the credit. Larger credits have longer lifetimes.

As you can see, it pays to purchase credit in larger amounts.

Important Note: A very nice feature is that the lifetime of your existing bonus credits
is renewed each time you add credit to your phone. It does not matter whether it's a
triple day or not. The amount of renewal time is shown in the table above. For
example, if you have Q275 in bonus credits that are about to expire, if you purchase Q50
in credit, the lifetime of your existing Q275 in bonus credits is reset to 15 days. If you
do it on a triple day, you'll earn the bonus credits, which will be added to your existing
credits and the lifetime of the whole amount is reset. By managing your credits like this
you can arrange to never lose bonus credits to expiration. If you put Q100 on your
phone every 30 days or more often, your bonus credits will never expire.
Message balance only applies if you have earned, won, or purchased bonus SMS
messages by means of the BASICO, AFICIONADO, and FANATICO plans, or you reach the
Plan Amigo bonus.
Additional note: At the time of this writing, if you buy a new Tigo phone you get 100
bonus credits with a 30 day expiration time and 3,000 bonus SMS messages also with a
30 day expiration time. However there's a catch. If you let your principal balance go to
zero during those first 30 days, you will lose the 3,000 bonus SMS messages.

Como se puede ver, vale la pena comprar crdito en cantidades mas grandes.
Importante: Una caracterstica muy buena es que la vida de sus crditos de
bonificacin existentes se renueva cada vez que aade crdito a su telfono. No importa

202 Credit your account with a prepaid phone card: (Note: This command is only
for users of a Tigo 3.5G Internet modem)

Send the prepaid card's code as the text of an SMS message to 202. This can be done
from the Tigo software on the computer or from a cell phone. The SIM card can be
removed from the modem and inserted in a Tigo cell phone. You will receive an SMS
confirmation showing the resulting account balance.

Enviar el codigo de la tarjeta prepago en un mensaje de texto (SMS) al 202. Esto se

This command is handy if someone buys a phone card and sends you the code as an
SMS message. Just forward the message to 202 and it credits the account. Warning:
Adding credit with this command will only credit the principal balance. It will not result
in bonus credits even if it is a triple day.

Note for Linux users: The Tigo modem software only supports Windows so if you are
using a Tigo modem with Linux, credits and purchases must be done by moving the SIM
card to a Tigo cell phone, performing the credit and purchase commands, viewing the
confirmations, and then moving the SIM back into the modem.

404 Purchase Internet Service: (This command is only for users of a Tigo 3.5G
Internet modem)

Send the word DIA, SEMANA, or, MES, in all caps, as the text of an SMS message to 404
in order to purchase one day, one week, or one month of 3G Internet service. The
service is charged against the credit on the account. (See 202) This can be done from
the Tigo software on the computer or the modem's SIM card can be removed and
inserted in a Tigo cell phone in order to execute these commands. You will receive a
confirmation SMS stating the service you purchased and the date and time it will expire.
