I don't know if you've seen Tesco's Christmas Advert showing on our TV screens
at the moment featuring Ruth Jones and Ben Miller and Slade's, 'Merry
Christmas' where the 'lady shopper' is daunted by the thought of getting ready for
Christmas and it's only mid November!
Well, as I write this in mid-November, I know just how she feels! So many Carol
Services to plan and prepare for as well as all the special things that happen in our
churches and villages in December all this and more - and 'normal life' doesn't
stop because its Christmas. I admit to feeling a little daunted. I suspect there are
many of you who are thinking of all the shopping and planning and preparing to be
done over the next few weeks who feel the same.
And yet like the character in the advert we too can pause, take a deep breath, look
afresh, see the joy, love and hope in Christmas (not necessarily the mince pies!)
and say to ourselves; Yeah Bring it on!
So let's not be daunted let's turn around together and say 'Bring it on'
And remember that this child we celebrate every Christmas time, born in
controversy, threatened by kings, would forever change the course of human
history. His story is our story. He can transform our lives too.
So will you embrace him as the most wonderful and life changing gift that we can
ever receive? I promise you it will take you until eternity to unwrap His treasures.
I pray that your Christmas this year will be full of Joy and Love and Hope for the
future.
Every blessing
Revd Jane

Christmas is such a special time of year, candle lit churches, family fun, children
laughing, there is an abundance of good things coming up for us all to enjoy
including the mince pies.
Christmas is full of love and joy and hope and new beginnings.
It is the beginning of the Christian story when God, because he so loved the world,
sent His son to earth to live among us and show us the right way to be to live.
That, when we take it seriously, is life changing.
It is the beginning of the churches new-year and it heralds the New Year to come.
It is a time when we can all pause for a while from our normal routines and amidst
the tinsel, wrapping paper, turkey and trimmings, reflect upon the potential and
possibilities that lie ahead.

One of our school development priorities this year is to enrich and broaden the
curriculum so that we fully explore cultural diversity. We celebrated' Black History
Month' throughout October which culminated in wonderful class assemblies
around this theme. Pupils in Key Stage 2 researched key milestones and
significant figures, whilst pupils in Key Stage 1 found out about President Barack
Obama and his time at The White House (very topical indeed). Our youngest
pupils had the chance to share Kenyan texts and music and have looked at
interesting objects from Africa.
During November our focus has been around 'Remembrance'. We have some
wonderful displays around the school to showcase each of the individual poppies
made, a selection of very emotive poetry, imagining life in the trenches, as well as
some factual writing about the events of World War One and the significance of
the 11th of November.
We certainly try hard to get out and about at Holly Meadows! So far this half term,
Barbosa class have visited Gaywood library. This was a great opportunity to
promote reading and a love of books but also to find out the other things a library
can offer. Pupils across the school have had the opportunity to represent the
school in a range of sporting events such as Hockey, Indoor Athletics and a MultiSkills Festival. In December, we are looking forward to some live theatre; Key
Stage 1 are very excited about watching the pantomime 'Jack and the Beanstalk'
in Hunstanton and Key Stage 2 will enjoy a trip to Westacre to see 'A Christmas
Carol'.
We are celebrating Christmas at Holly Meadows with a nativity-based show
'Baubles' performed by our youngest pupils in Key Stage 1 and a traditional carol
service by Key Stage 2, with the support of Reverend Jane at St Botolph's
Church, Grimston. We very much look forward to sharing these with families and
friends of the school in the last week of term to get us all in the mood for the
festive season.
Throughout this term, we have welcomed a number of families to look around in
preparation for new intake in September 2017. A reminder to families with
children due to start primary school next year- if you haven't been in to visit
already, come and look around! Please call our school office on 01485 600241 to
book a visit.
With very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year!

With Christmas now fast approaching and the postman delivering sacks of
Christmas cards I would just like to remind everyone that I am still collecting
stamps to raise funds for the Norfolk Ornithologists' Association. All stamps are
welcome, old and new, British and Foreign, definitive and commemorative. They
need a margin of 1cm or quarter of an inch all the way round but if you don't have
time to cut them from the envelope please just put the whole envelopes in a bag
and I will do the rest, including shredding the address. Some of you know where I
live but if you would like me to collect them from you after Christmas, please just
give me a call on 01485 600937.

What a lovely country picture on the cover of last month's link - that of the post office
and Ruby the horse waiting for her mint! (Was it a Murray?!)
It is interesting to see the farm vehicles around the village showing us where we are
on the farming calendar.
I understand from cyclists that our village is a good way to cycle round on their way to
Lynn. I enjoyed seeing families supporting their children's sponsored bike ride.
Two weeks or so ago I noticed that the dog waste bin was overflowing, and filled bags
were left on the ground around the bottom. I understand that the bins are provided
for dog walkers who are not immediately returning home, otherwise the bags should
be placed in their own black bins. The waste bin is cleared fortnightly, which is
sufficient if most does go in the black bins.
It's sad that there is no longer a poppy collection around the village. Our thanks must
go to the lady who has arranged it for many years in the past, and all her helpers.
Where the 'fireman's prayer' was answered on November 5th the animals slept well!
The Remembrance Sunday service at the church was well attended. How good to
see the Beavers and Scouts, with their flag bearers parading up the aisle to present
the flags, and one scout reading the lesson.
The well known hymns were sung with enthusiasm, and the act of remembrance
outside at the Memorial was very moving with the two minutes silence, and the Last
Post and Reveille played by a trumpeter.
Later Congham Church held a delicious afternoon tea to which everyone was invited.
There was also a display of crafts and interesting memorabilia on the theme 'Hear My
Cry. '

By the time you read this, the choir will have performed its Christmas concert in
aid of The Big C, Norfolk Cancer Charity and will be making plans for 2017. Our
Spring term starts on Thursday 5th January and we will be learning some new
songs so why not make a New Year Resolution and come and join us. We meet
at Churchill Park School, Winston Churchill Drive, King's Lynn PE30 4RP on
Thursdays 7pm to 9pm term time only. We have soprano, alto, tenor and bass
sections, there are no auditions, no need to read music just an enjoyment of
singing. We pay a subscription of 35 per term but if you want to try us out, your
first two sessions are free. We are a friendly group, have a lot of fun and new
members are always welcome. We have a website where you can find further
information :- www.simplysingcommunitychoir.com. If anyone wants to give
us a try but is not sure of walking into a group of strangers, I will be at the front
door of the school building to greet you and accompany you so why not give us a
try. Ann Gordon

This month has been very productive for PTA fundraising. We held our first school
disco of the academic year which raised a fantastic 123.50 towards equipment
and experiences for the children.
We are also very pleased to report that thanks to the support of our pupils, staff,
parents and community supporting our school we have been able to use
fundraising money to purchase a new whiteboard with projector for Explorers
class. We have also been able to fund for Miss Hogger (our reception teacher) to
complete her Forest School training, which will enable our school to have our
forest school status reinstated.
The PTA have also been busy preparing for the Big Prize Bingo on Wednesday
7th December at Ffolkes Arms, Hillington. Doors will open from 6.45pm and eyes
down is at 7.30pm. There are fantastic prizes on offer including hampers, bottles,
days out and vouchers which have been so kindly donated by local businesses
and members of our school and community. If anybody would like to donate any
further prizes they would be very gratefully received please contact the school
office on (01485)600241 or Emma on 07747111452.
Holly Meadows PTA would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year.

I must start by saying a huge THANK YOU to everyone that supported me with
the TiddlyPotts Fundraising Pamper & Shopping Evening on the 12th November.
It was a great success! Everyone who came had a relaxing look around the many
stalls, some had a massage or their nails painted while others did a spot of
shopping or had their cards read. The raffle was drawn a 9pm and it took us over
half an hour to get through all the prizes! I'm happy to say we raised lots of money
for the group, over 400 before deduction of costs !! I'm spending some of the
money this month on the children, with a trip to Church Farm Stow Bardolph
where they will get to visit Santa as well as all the farm animals.
