1. Howdidyouspendyourtimethisweek?Whatresponsibilitiesdidyouhave?
Thisweekbeganmytakeoverofteaching1blockoftheAlgebraIIclasses.Iwas
responsibleforcarryingoutthelessoncoplannedbymymentorteacherandI.Ialso
continuedmyresponsibilitiesoftakingattendance,writingpasses,checkingemailsand
infinitecampusthroughoutallblocksoftheday.
OnThursday,mymentorteacherhadtobeatanalldaytraining.Therewasasubstitute
teacherinourclassforthedaybutshedoesnothaveanymathexperiencesoItaughtall
classesonThursday.ThiswasanunexpectedchallengebutIthinkitwentprettywell!
2. Whatwereyourmostsatisfyingexperiences?Whatwereyourmostchallenging
experiences?
MymostsatisfyingexperiencewasprobablyteachingalldayonThursdaywithoutmy
mentorteacherbeingpresentandwithoutanymajorhiccups.Oneexperiencein
particularmademereallyhappythatday;astudentwasstrugglingtounderstandthe
conceptofdomainandrange.AfterreexplaininganddifferentiatinghowIwas
explainingit/givinghimsomemoreproblemstopracticehesuddenlyexplaineditall
backtomeandsaidWowthatsit?!Itsthateasy?!andwhenIsaidyep!he
respondedwithWowyoushouldhavetoldmethatbeforeinjokingway.
OneofthemostchallengingexperiencesImhavingisgettingsomeofthestudentsin
someblockstoactuallyengagewithwhatweredoinginclass.Thereareafewstudents
whositthereduringclassanddonothing.Ifweredoingaworksheettogetherasaclass
(evenifwetellthemallthatwewillbecollectingitonceclassisover)thereareafew
studentswhowillstillturnitinblank.Bynomeansarethesestudentsthemajority,butI
wantallstudentsintheclasstobeengagedinthecontentatleastsomeifnotmostofthe
timeandImrunningoutofideasonhowtogetthemtoparticipate.
3. Whataretheplansfortheupcomingweek?
ThisupcomingweekIwilltakeoverasecondblockofalgebraIIandcontinuewithmy
dutiesfortheotherclasses.IamchoosingtotakeoverthealgebraIIclassesbeforeour
intrototrigonometryclassesbecauseeveryotherdaymymentorteacherandImeetwith
analgebraIIPLCandthereisalotofsupportforthatclass.Forourintrototrigonometry
thereisnoPLCandonly1otherteacheristeachingthatclass,soIfeltlikeitwasamuch
smoothertransitionformetostartwithalgebraIIandIknowIllhavealotmoresupport.
