Prior Knowledge:
The teaching plan in this unit helps students' to visualization that people and other
organisms needs health to stay a life. That supports students' past knowledge and
builds their new knowledge by learn more details about the subject and helps them to
learn more about what nutrients needed by our bodies?
Lesson Objectives:
1. Determine the nutrients that our body needs.
2. Learn how to choose nutritious foods.
This is builds the students' knowledge when they can define the nutrients needed by
our bodies then recognizes and understands it to apply during the activities. So,
students' can discuss and analyses that new information which lead to organize their
critical thinking and helps them to improve by linking what they learned and evaluate
their new information. These little steps in learning improve their critical learning and
help them to develop as I said previously.
Attitudes: As a teacher I will act the routine by telling the date and day. I will write the
lesson objective and give them clear instructions to follow. Remind them of the
classroom rules. Be flexible and following the lesson plan. Halima this section refers to
what attitudes you are focusing in developing and teaching in the lesson Eg listen to
others, dont laugh at others answers etc
Knowledge/Understanding: They will learn how to determine the nutrients that our body
needs, learn how to choose nutritious foods. Also, they will be able to classify the
different nutritious foods and separate it in the categories (new words).
Skills: Students will learn new words. For example, Nutrients, Balanced diet,
Carbohydrates, Vitamins, Proteins and Minerals. Students will collecting data through
reading to let them explore and looking for the information. The new vocabulary is part
of the knowlwdge learning. This section refers to the students skills you are planning to
develop in the students through activities and tasks.

Evaluation / Assessment:
I will use the notepaper in page 109 to document their learning and let them to write or
draw what they learned during the lesson. They should be able to discuss what they
learned and knows the most important things they learned during the lesson. So, the
discussing and questioning strategy are a good example to follow-up this lesson.

Personal focus: In this lesson I am working on my PDP goals which are decrease the
pressure on me before the lesson by preparing early and organize my work. Also,
allowing more dialogue during the lesson by discussing with students and give them
chance to expression their ideas and develop my constructive feedback through the
lesson to motivate student learning by giving a reason for the feedback.
Teaching Competencies focus: In this lesson I am working on planning for learning
through knowledge and understanding of content to promote engagement and ensure
all students meet their potential. I looked at the short-term and started my teaching
form that unit to give the students' a sequence lessons and follow-up that lessons to
meet a range of learning needs and styles.

Teaching Strategies:
Teaching strategies: Use gestures and expressions, visual elements to support meaning
like vocab cards, use visual elements, titles concepts to explain the key to helping
students understand classroom language, use the form of academic language while
showing important to help students understand to be more familiar to hear it or read it,
instructions and ask questions strategy throughout the lesson.
Classroom management strategies: Use name checklist to follow the student
development in preparation, participation and behavior.
Behavioral management strategies: Use counting strategy to control the students
behaves Voice tone to grab their attention and claps hand.
Feedback strategies: It will be more attractive and supports by giving an explanation
promote their answer.

ACTIVITIES: Halima you need to use the lesson template. This isnt enough detail about
your planning or intentions here. What are you doing? What are students doing? PDP
focus during phases?
ENGAGE -Introduction: you need to explain the lesson to students, write the objective on
board and explain/remind them of your expectations
Discuss with students and give them time to share their own knowledge about previous
learning. Then link it with the learning outcomes. To make connections to what they
know and have experienced.
There was no introduction to explain my presence in the class. This is important. All the
girls were distracted by me. So next time please introduce me to the class.
Facial expressions are welcoming. Good eye contact with students and focus.

Students attentive and listening at the start.
Tried to get girls at back of room engaged by asking them a question. You need to mve
towards them at this stage and not stay at the front of the room.
Later you moved to be closer to the students. Dont stand behind the desk. Move
around more between the tables.
Did you explain the lesson today and sequence the important information on the board
for the students?
PHASE ONE:
Divide students to 4 groups. Then ask them open the book page 106, 107 and each
group will read a part and find the main points to share with others. How did you plan to
share? Did you formalize that and reinforce key learning?
More detail is needed in each phase.
State the content focus what are you aiming to achieve in this phase?
Explain your instructions for this task.
Countdown to finish. Be more dynamic and create interest in the students between the
transitions.
PHASE TWO: Explain the lesson depending to reading then continue the phase 1; on the
board the students will classify the pictures depending to foods group and foodstuffs
and ensure, to use vocab cards. This is to give an opportunity for all students to have
same experience together to get them thinking.
There needs to be more details here.
Idea sheets?
This phase was very teacher directed so you were losing the student focus. Who is doing
most of the talking and were there opportunities for dialogue between students or as a
class?
How can you get the students more involved? Could you create an activity that doesnt
have most of the class watching? Why not make a game and get students to do it as a
group by posting their images on the wall? This phase needs to be interactive. Be
creative with your planning so this phase is more student centered.

Dont stay at the front of the room. You can direct the lesson from any part of the class.
This is a perfect opportunity for micro-teaching especially with a grade 5.

9.25 ELABORATE AND EXTEND: Show a video to enhance their new knowledge about
nutritious foods for deeper understanding.
The video link needs to be shown in lesson plan. Did you check the projector before the
lesson? This is part of your lesson preparation.
Students were waiting and getting restless.in/out of seats. This is not a managed
transition because students should be waiting for the projector. You need to factor this
into the lesson planning. Dont have fill-in wait time.

How have you extended students knowledge in this phase?
LESSON CLOSURE: Request from students to open page 109, and draw or write what
they learned and understand from the lesson. Also, this is will be time for review
especially, when the students will discuss their work.
What were students asked to write. How did you prepare them for this?

Were there any challenges in your lesson? Did you plan for this?
Did you differentiate to support or extend?
Class questions- so interaction. Why not get students to write on the board?
Assessment of Understanding: Students will draw or write what they learned and
understand from the lesson. Teacher will walk around and check their work. If time finish
they can complete their work at home.
Did you give feedback on their independent bookwork? This is a learning moment.

First Observation Reflection:

Today I observed my first observation and Ms. Julie gave me a feedback about it. She not
really happy with my plan sheet and she said there are many aspects needs to write
more details on it. I agree with her because I can see there were many missing important
points and my planning wasnt deeper like a teacher which lets to think that I dont have
deep thinking. Also, the MCT was unhappy with my late submitted for the lesson plan
because I gave it to her at school before the lesson and she wasnt has time to read it to
write her notes.
So, the MCT said I need to be more organize in preparing my lessons and I should mange
my time to do that because as a trainee I have many things to and I am really under

presser but I need to calm down and be organizer teacher and as a student teacher I
know how the organize is very important for a teachers. Also she said and I agree with
her about the teacher center. It was really teacher center lesson because I tried to follow
the curriculum and it included a lot of reading which makes students fell boring through
the lesson. This is why my MST told me I need to use more reading strategies and gave
me examples on that.
Next time, I will be more organize and I will prepared my lesson early to take my time to
think about all aspects and prepared a great lesson. Also, I will focus on students center
because I missed that in this lesson and I saw how my lesson was traditionally lesson
which is not related to my teaching way. Also, I agree with my MCT I need to use reading
strategies because I need especially the curriculum includes a lot of reading tasks.
