Summary:
We will be focusing on the book The Giving Tree and how to recogonize the words
in this book that go along with out focus in November of sharing and giving thanks.

I plan on dividing this lesson into two days with a 60 minute rotation (every 20
minutes) for our centers throughout our classroom.

Instructional Procedures:
We will start the week by watching The Giving Tree on youtube aong with reading a hard copy in
class. Our focus will be on letter and word recognition with this book along with sharing and
giving thanks. All of our centers will be decortated and themed to this book so that everything w
are doing ties together.
Day 1:
First 10 minutes: students will be rotating very 20 minutes between the technology, art and
dramatic play centers. We will choose our centers and the activities within each center will then
begin
20 Minutes Rotating: I will be helping at the art center as students paint their letter trees. We will
trace their hands and arms for the trunk then they will cut them out and glue them to the tree
they just painted and then use a red dotter to make the first letter of their name on the tree. In
the technology center the studdents will be doing a maze to have the boy find the tree as well ad
matching games with letters and picture on items from the book. The dramatic play cetner will
have a student made tree in it where the can play with apples and hang letter apples on the
branches of our giving tree.
Day 2: Fisrt 10 Minutes: students will be rotating every 20 minutes between the writing, science,
and blocks centers. We will choose our centers and the activities within each center will then
begin.
20 Minute Rotating: I will be helping between the writing and science centers helping the
students trace their letters on their worksheets and in apple sauce. The apple sauce will be used
for sensory play as well as letter practice writing them with their fingers. The worksheets will be
focusing on letter form and holding their pencils correctly. The block center will be building things
in the story like a house, a tree, and a stump.
Extension
will have a QR code to send home with more fun worksheets with tracing and letter matching.
