PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
ARCELORMITTAL, Senior Director Government Relations
2007- 2016
Created and developed the ArcelorMittal state/federal affairs program to meet company objectives.
Handled company GR issues, hiring and supervising outside consultants as needed. Responsible to
lead and coordinate legislative and regulatory issues, federal, state and local, including energy,
environment, tax, transportation/logistics, pensions, safety and security, appropriations, labor,
trade, economic development, unemployment, workers comp and legal reform. Prepared
testimony, op-eds, and letters to the editor, company positions, testified before state legislative
committees and caucuses, plus presented industry positions as an invited speaker. Liaised between
company execs, local operations, trade associations and politicians.
Led Coalition gaining compromise Electric Utilities/Committee Chair, saving AM $110M+
Led Coalition in IN and OH to get an opt out provision from electricity renewable mandates
Worked w/USW on Climate Change to oppose solo state efforts, while they backed federal
efforts, then persuaded Governor to drop MD Senate 90% mandate; Then Co. sold MD mill
Obtained Congressional language blocking EPA Great Lakes shipping emissions regs and
grandfathering 13 steamships otherwise obsolete, saving industry $81M annually
Worked legislation persuading WV DEP to finalize regs that saved plant $5M in compliance
Negotiated agreement creating PA tax district saving up to $55M for a Steelton rail mill
Secured permits for new onsite landfills at three plant sites, saving over $1M/year/plant
Successfully obtained $10M in refundable tax credits for Cleveland after $800K state offer
Defeated County efforts to reverse tax reform for NWI, saving $15M/year in taxes
Persuaded IN legislature to change tax assessment process, saving $2M/year in legal fees
