Assessments and Classwork

During the 1st quarter, we read all assessments to

students. We will no longer read assessments and
classwork to students unless we are required to do
so based on an individualized education plan. As
we prepare them for third grade and standardized
testing, we expect students to be able to function
more independently as the school year progresses.
Allowing them to complete assignments more
independently will give us and you, as the parent, a
clearer picture of students strengths and
weaknesses. Make sure that your child is reading at
home daily. There are many free resources on the
internet that will allow students to practice reading
and math skills.
Assessments will be given on Thursdays and/or Fridays.

Monthly Reading Log

Reading logs are due on or before the last school

day of each month. This counts as a reading grade.
Students are to read 20 books per month. If you
ever misplace your reading log, you can write it on
a sheet of paper or request another one. A parents
signature is required on the reading log to get
credit.
Upcoming Dates
Our annual second grade program will be held on December 8th.
We would like to inform you of the attire early just in case you
would like to start looking for these items now.
The attire will be as follows:
Girls: White dresses and shoes
Boys: White shirt, black slacks, red tie or bowtie, and black shoes
Incentive Program/Classroom Incentives
All students were given a challenge at the beginning of the year
to work hard and be on their best behavior. Your son or daughter
will receive one of the following behavior ratings: (E-excellent, Ssatisfactory, N-needs improvement, or U-unsatisfactory) Students
receiving an excessive amount of Ns and Us, will not be able to
participate in/receive school or class sponsored events/treats. We
will reward students who may be having some academic
struggles, but are trying their best with their work and behaves
appropriately. We want to acknowledge students persistence in
trying to accomplish the goals set forth by teachers and
administrators.

Assessments will be given on Thursdays and/or Fridays.
