In order to demonstrate my ability to achieve the sixth learning objective of the

communication discipline at Bryant University, the ability to accomplish communicative goals, I


will be using two pieces of evidence. The first piece of evidence is the Communications
Assistant Job Description written during my working experience as a Communications Assistant
at the Television Bureau of Advertising (TVB). The second piece of evidence displays the
portions of my resume which detail my working experiences as a Database Intern and
Communications Assistant for TVB. The Communications Assistant Job Description was written
during the final stages of my time with TVB, as a guideline for the next Communications
Assistant to perform the role correctly. This job description describes the database in which the
individual would spend most of their time working, as well as the responsibilities of the role. The
portions of my resume for the Database Intern and Communications Assistant roles describe the
original responsibilities as a Database Intern and the continuance of these responsibilities, as well
as an increase in responsibilities given, when promoted to Communications Assistant.
The Communications Assistant Job Description was chosen to demonstrate my ability to
achieve the sixth learning objective because of the job descriptions ability to achieve the
communicative goals involved in effectively explaining the Communications Assistant role to the
individual that would become my replacement. In order to perform the role as Communications
Assistant correctly, it was essential to understand how the database worked, where information
was stored, and the different functions the database could carry out. The job description begins
by thoroughly describing the database. It details the contents of the database, its purposes, its
functions, and its limitations. The description of the database effectively demonstrates the ability
to achieve the communicative goal in describing the database to the next Communications
Assistant. After the database is thoroughly described, the job description details the daily
responsibilities of the role. These responsibilities included the monitoring of TVBs Account

Help email address and emails from their Info email address; creating accounts for individuals
requesting TVB member logins for the website; assisting members with problems logging in;
updating member organization roster pages; and the completion of other large and ongoing
projects within the database. The next part of the job description lists the ongoing responsibilities
of the job that include daily responsibilities, as well as those which occur throughout the duration
of the role and those which occur sporadically throughout the duration of the role. After listing
these responsibilities, the job description thoroughly explains each of them in a detailed manner.
Not only does the job description demonstrate the ability to achieve the communicative goals set
forth prior to writing the job description, describing the database, but these goals also included
the description of the responsibilities I had throughout my working experience as a Database
Intern and Communications Assistant. Additionally, the limitations portion achieves one of the
main goals of the learning objective, being the identification of contexts, situations and barriers
that impede communication. The inconsistencies throughout the database involving the member
pages of member organizations, and inability to track them, created a situation that formed a
barrier, impeding the communication between TVB and member organizations. By attending
meetings and communicating with other members in the organization, this demonstrated the
second goal of the learning objective, being the performance of verbal communication behaviors
that accomplished communicative goals for myself and others. When leaving TVB, it was at the
time that employees were to write evaluations for themselves, demonstrating the final goal of the
learning objective, to evaluate personal communication strengths and weaknesses. These two
pieces of evidence demonstrate my ability to achieve the sixth learning objective, as well as its
main goals.
