Colonization and First Nations
Your homework mark for the unit of Colonization and First Nations will have an element of choice for it.
Each assignment will be weighted with points. The goal is to get 100 points over the 5 weeks I am teaching here
(April 11th,2016 to May 13th,2016). If you put a lot of work into an assignment and feel that it should be worth
more points than its worth come and talk to me. If you have another Idea for an assignment that is not included
on here, again come and talk to me. We have to connect it to the curriculum and the unit. I do not want this
homework to be a burden to your life but if I feel that if a project is not polished enough I have the ability to
deny the points and hand it back for a re-submit. You have the option to repeat the type of assignment after you
complete it but it has to be on a different topic. For the assignments where you have to include another source
other than the textbook you must include a URL and the title of the article, book or website (I have to be able to
find it). HAND IT THE ASSIGNMENTS IN AT THE END OF CLASS IN TO THE ASSIGNMENT
FOLDER.

Map

Colouring a map (with a legend) of the traditional First Nations lands


in BC. (come talk to me if you want to do this I have copies of the
map) (Hint: Google First Nations traditional land map BC)

Current Events

Bringing in a printed current event and present it too the class during
current events on Fridays.

10 points

Powerpoint

Create a 5-7 slide Power Point on Colonization or First Nations. Must 20 points
include at least one source other than the text book. (can be a book, or
website)

Perform a play

Write an original 5 minute play Covering some aspect of colonization 15 points


and present it to the class on our Friday class. Must include at least one
source other than the text book. (can be a book, or website). A written
outline of the play must be handed in and all members names must be
on it.

Pamphlet/Poster

Create a pamphlet or poster covering some aspect of Colonization or

First Nations. Must include at least one source other than the text book.
(can be a book, or website)

Write a story

Write a one page story about Colonization or First Nations . Must


include at least one source other than the text book. (can be a book, or
website).
*possibility for 10 more points if you fill out an article credibility chart

Sample topics include, The Fur trade, Louis Riel, an Explorer, A First Nations Group from a particular area, what
are treaties and the difficulties with them, Changing Settler and First Nation relationships, impact of residential
schools.
