How do you know?

How does this relate

to your disease?

What is Health
Geography?

Health geography is
the branch of
Geography that
focuses on how
geographical
information,
perspectives, and
methods relate to the
study of health,
disease, and health
care.

aphy

Why do people study

it?

They study it to learn

about how diseases
are affected by
diseases

How do people study

it? What kinds of
tools and experts do
they use?

They use maps and

data.

Is there a lot or a little

information on your
disease related to
health geography?
Why do you think yes
or no?

Theres only some

information that I
could find about
pneumonia that is
related to Health
Geography. I believe
this is because
pneumonia is a
common disease
thats widely spread
in a lot of areas, not

https://en.wikipedi
a.org/wiki/Epidem
iology_of_pneum
onia

This relates to my
disease because it
shows that there is
not one area in the
world where the risks
of being infected by
the disease are
higher because of
how common it is.

just one.
What are at least
three different cultural
methods of dealing
with this disease in
the modern day
and/or throughout
history? Be specific
on when the
treatment has been
used.

The most common

treatment for
pneumonia since
early 1940 are
antibiotics. A therapy
called antiserum
therapy started to be
used in 1913. There
are also some
treatments that
people believe helps
at home, these
include: Consuming
lots of liquids, as well
as resting.

http://www.newsmedical.net/healt
h/PneumoniaHistory.aspx

This is related to my
disease because in
some cultures, it may
be believed that a
person should die
after being diagnosed
with the disease.

Are there any specific

religious beliefs tied
into the cultural
methods of dealing
with this disease?
What are the religions
and how do their
beliefs impact how it
is dealt with?

In some examples I

found, some peoples

children are infected
with pneumonia but
instead of seeking for
medical help they
pray for them to be
healed. Their faith in
their god and their
healing powers blinds
them and sometimes
kills the children.

ail.co.uk/news/arti

This affects my
disease because
people have so much
faith in their God, that
they believe they will
heal their children.

What is the history of

this disease and
where/who does it
typically affect? Is
there a connection
between those two
questions?

The history of this

disease dates back to

460-370 BC in
Greece. Now days it
is a common disease
that can be found all
around the world, but
mostly targets
children from ages 02 and people from
ages 65+. The
connection between
these two questions
is that it basically
asks when and where
you might be at a
higher risk of being
infected with the
disease.

nce.com/health/p

This affects my
disease because if
you look at where the
disease is mostly
found and what age
group it mostly
targets, it tells you
when and where you
might be at a higher
risk of being infected.

Is this disease
increasing or
decreasing in
prevalence? Why?
Any specific cultural
methods helping or
hurting the spread of
it?

The disease is
increasing in
prevalence, this is
happening because
people sometimes
confuse it for other
diseases.

Are there any maps

showing the spatial
distribution of your
disease? Write down
the link of where to
find it/them under
source.

I could not find any

maps about the
spatial distribution of
pneumonia.

http://modmedmicro.n
sms.ox.ac.uk/pneum
onia-is-increasingand-we-need-to-planfor-it/

This affects my
disease because it
shows why the cases
of pneumonia are
increasing.

This would affect my

disease because it
would show where
the disease was first
spread to.
