Academic Success Event #1

"Stop Before You Drop"

October 13, 2016

The program "Stop Before You Drop" provided useful information pertaining to early
academic alert warnings and the impact of dropping classes, I learned that withdrawing from
courses can affect your housing, Financial Aid and, Progression Toward Graduation. Before
dropping classes you should speak with your instructor and academic advisor. Also consult the
office of Financial Aid and make sure you are making an informed decision.
Dropping classes can also affect your SAP which is the Satisfactory Academic Progress.
For a good SAP undergraduate students must meet certain academic standards. Students must
have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher at the end of each semester. Also the
student must earn 67% of hours attempted, along with exceed 150% of hours required for degree
completion.
Dropping classes can affect your housing and enrollment in school. In order to receive a
room assignment and remain on campus, students must register for classes each semester with at
least 12 hours for undergraduates and at least 9 hours for graduate students. Other requirements
to get/keep housing includes meeting immunization requirements, complete FAFSA, and pay
housing application processing fee.
One extra fact I learned was that throughout your time in college you only have 16 hours
of classes to drop, and that the drop period of this year is until October 24 with no consequences.
From dropping a class you will get a W on your transcript which stands for withdrawal. This

with not affect your GPA. Overall I thought the program was really nice. I learned alit of things I
did not know that could really help me in the future.
