In this article, I will be clearing the doubt about the CBSE Evaluation Process for class

Before I continue my words, let me tell you one thing that, if you have done
everythingperfect in your exam then there is no one to put your marks down.

Class 12th?
If you are thinking that the CBSE Evaluation process is very strict then this short,
interesting and, the true story of mine will prove you wrong.
I was in my 1st year of graduation, and there was a good friend of mine in 12th science
stream named Akash, he still lives in my neighborhood. He was intelligent enough to
be the topper of his class.
I have still a memory of that moment when Akash met me after giving his
PhysicsBoard exam, and said Yaarek5numberkaquestionchoothgaya. He
was a little upset and worried about that particular question and ultimately for his
marks.
Months passed and the day of the Board exams result arrived. You will not believe me
what really happened, Akash Scored 99 marksin physics. How was that even
possible? both I and Akash really didnt get any idea about that. But this incident made
one thing very clear to me, that there are no strict rules and processes in Evaluation,
everything we think about the evaluation process is a myth or mystery,no one knows
exactly that how the evaluation process gets done.
So we can conclude, that in exam there is also a game of luck sometimes, during the
evaluation process.

The Bad Face Of Evaluation Process Of CBSE Board

Above story must have made you a bit happy as there was a good face of the
evaluation process, But wait! there are always two faces of a coin. The evaluation
process is notgood for everyone, like me there are a number of victims of this
questionable process.
I am an M.Sc(chemistry) student now, chemistry is my key subject, and in my 12th
class I used to be the topper in chemistry in every test. During the board exam of
chemistry in my class 12th, I attempted all the questions with correct answers and I
checked my answer sheet thrice just to ensure that I havent left something.
I was 100% sure that I will score 100 out of 100 marks in chemistry. And when the
result was declared I secured only 95 marks, I still dont have any idea, that what
happened to those 5 marks?.
So, here is the crystal clear face of the evaluation process of CBSE Board for 12th

class. I wont say that this system is a fault, but one thing I must say that, there is no
full transparency in the evaluation process, no-one can really estimate his/her marks
on the basis of exams given by them.

How CBSE Evaluation Process Works?

let me make it more clear about the evaluation process by telling you the steps
involved in this process.
What really happens with your answer sheet, after you leave the exam? have you ever
questionedabout this? if yes then follow me.
There are two methods involved in the evaluation process of CBSE.
1. Digital Evaluation
This is a newly added system for evaluating the answer sheets, in this process a
scanned copy of your answer sheet is uploaded to a server and then sent to a
particular checker around the India.
The advantage of this process is that there is no need to move your answer
sheets from one place to another, it can be simply served to any
teacher(Checker) in the India.
Every checker has a unique id, on the basis of which the answer sheets are
allotted to them, and then after evaluating the answer sheet the assigned
teacher conrms that he/she has checked the answer sheet.
This process is not everywhere yet, because this process is time-consuming as
checking the answer sheet in computer screen take a lot time than a manual
checking.
2. Manual Evaluation
This is a traditional method, and you must be aware a bit about this process. All
the answer sheets from different examination centers are collected and sent to
their regarded checking centers where the evaluation process takes place.
Some of government teachers and some private teachers are hired for the
evaluation process, the answer sheets are then divided among the checkers and
then a manual checking process takes place. According to my English teacher,
once she told me that a single checker checks 40+ copies in 6 hours.

it be so perfect when a single teacher is checking 40+

Hello Sir, thanks for posting the article. I liked the trick very much. But I have a question. I
took external exams in class 10th, and am waiting for my results. In my science exam, I
took a b sheet. On the b sheet, a pink coloured paper was attached. There were three
blocks on it, and I lled my roll number on one of them. However, I didnt read the other
two. I have done at lease 20 marks work on my b sheet. How important was lling the B
sheet there? Hoping for you to come up with a really helpful answer. Thanks.

Hi Vanaj, you do not need to worry as your b sheet must be well attached with your
main answer sheet. Even, if it is not attached well, still you have your roll no. written
on it, so its ne.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for the informative article. My query is At the checking center, are the answer
sheets distributed to the checker set wise, Or is it simply a bunch of 40+ consecutive
papers handed over to them?
Thank you.

Hi Prachi,
The answer sheets are distributed to the checkers serial wise or roll no. wise
(consecutive), and not the set wise. So, we can say that they just get bunch of
consecutive answer sheet to check.

The cbse has promised remedy for maths 2016 board paper. Can you please tell me what
will this means in terms of correction, i.e will the correction be lenient? or, will they simply
give 5-8 marks extra? or, will they decrease pass marks like last time?
There have also been talks about a retest, what are the possibilities of that?

Assuming that most of your answers will be right, I think that examiner will have a

If you have attempted all the questions, and 86 is your worst case scenario, then

In english you will get some marks of correct formatting and presentation even if
you have written the answer different from the question in writing section.
Also, in physics if you could make up to 17 marks, and you havent left any
question(correct or incorrect) then you can get the grace marks from the checker.
Thank you.

I am a commerce student. I gave my business exam. It was quite difcult because 55% of
the questions were case study.
I did all the question except one. And according to me Ill get 85 or above. Can I get more
marks as I had written a lot. Attached two supplementary sheets. Moreover in my English
exam I did a mistake by doing a lot cutting. First I made my advertisement and letter
format wrong but I corrected it by doing it again. So will it effect my marks?? A bit worried
about that.

I have a question. Out of Psychology and Economics, in which subject can one score more
easily?
Because of reasons I wont go into, I have only about enough time left to prepare properly
for only one out of these two subjects (Ill be able to get at least 60 in the one I dont
prepare for).
So I need to know on which one I should focus more.

Thanks for asking Kartik,

See both Psychology and Economics are content based subjects, and both subjects
are nearly equal, on the basis of difculty level. One cannot tell the preferred subject
which you should go for, so you have to make the decision here.
Choose that subject in which you are familiar with the topics and thats it.

My physics exam went horrible, the paper was lengthy and it was not as per the marks
allocated for chapters, I was thorough with every derivation and only 2 of them came. That
too for options does CBSE do lenient checking?? do they fail in particular subject Im too
worried because it is about my future and I dont want my future to get spoiled by 1 subject

The checking is not too lenient, it depends on some factors like mood of checker,
correctness in answers, your presentations, writing, graphs, correct solutions etc.
If you have attempted all the questions with some of correct answers instead of
leaving the answer sheet blank for some questions, then there is less chances that
the checker will fail you.
Also, if you are failing by 7 or even 8 marks and you have attempted all the
questions even with wrong answers then you can get grace marks by the checker to
pass the subject.
All the best for your result.
Thank you.

This is an often mistake done by the students every year but there is no relation
between your marks and these mistakes. So do not think too much about it, no

It is advised to look for the answer key of physics paper or cross check your
answers with some reference book. Now, if you are getting at least 15 to 18 marks
at your own and you havent left any question during the exam, then the checker will
pass you by giving some of grace marks. Otherwise you are in a danger zone.

Hey! Pulkit,
If 88 and 89 are your gures in the worst case scenario, then you will surely score

Question: 1
In your article you talked about the evaluation process. I heard somewhere that three
examiners correct each paper, but nowhere in your article have you mentioned about it. So,
is it true what I heard? If yes, then theres greater risk of the second/third examiner to nd
faulty answers that the rst examiner missed.
Question: 2
Is it true that you get more than what you expect in cbse board exams? That did happen to
me in 10th standard, but I dont know whats going to happen this year.
Also, if Ive done excellent in other subjects but performed too bad in physics, will CBSE be
lineint enough to give grace marks in physics?
What is the maximum possible marks one can get in English?
Question: 3
I just gave my physics and English exam for 12th cbse boards. There was this question to
plot a graph and draw a diagram in two of the questions. I drew them partially right. Will I
get half marks for that? or will they give me zero?
Also, does cbse actually give zero to any answer? if most of it is wrong but, none the less,
attempted.
Finally, can you please tell me if cbse gives full in writing if youve presented well and used
nice expressions?

Hello! Keerthi,
You took that asking your query part quite seriously! Just kidding. Below are the
answers to all your questions One by One.
Answer: 1
Yes! their might be some chances that the copies are checked by three examiners
sometimes but the other two generally check the caging table (proper marking). And
they do not give that deep look to any answer (unless you are very unlucky).
Answer: 2
It depends on the examiner weather you will get more than expected marks or less.
If you are passed in all the subject, and lagging behind just by couple of marks, then
you can be given grace marks to pass in 1 subject. You can score 90s in English if
you have done very well.
Answer: 3
You will get something if you have written at least some part of the answer right.
And yes, if the answer is totally illogical to the question asked, then you can get 0.
You can expect to get full marks if you write the correct answer in subjects other
than language subjects. But, still you never know what the examiner is thinking.

Well, this is certain that Im not failing in any of the subjects. What I want to
know is that if my total percentage turns out to be 89 or something will cbse
give grace marks and make it 90 at least. That goes by saying if Im getting in
90s in the four subjects but in physics-80s.
Keerthi kamath

March 7, 2016 at 7:26 am

And I checked cbse marking scheme for physics. It allots 1 or sometimes 2

whole marks for circuit diagrams and graphs. So if Ive drawn them partially
right, Ill get half marks or zero? The examiner is supposed to adhere to the
answer key right? Do they strictly follow?
4ono

March 8, 2016 at 12:47 pm

No, if you have added some of main elements to the graphs and diagrams
then you wont get zero, but if same is going sense less then obviously zero
will be given.
And yes, you will get a half mark if the graph is of one mark, if your graph or
diagram is partially correct.
4ono

March 8, 2016 at 12:50 pm

No, this dont happens, grace marks are allotted to those students only who
are failing. No grace marks are allotted to the overall percentage.

telling me that the examiner ignores the answer that is repeated and will consider
only the rst one.

It totally depends on the examiner, if he/she pays attention to the right

answer that you have written on the last page, then you will probably get the
marks for right answer. But, if it does not happen, then probably your wrong
answer will be considered.
Dont you worry, chances are that your right answer will be considered.

This is not really a big problem, this happens with lot of students. Your roll number
matters the most in that OMR sheet, if you have put your roll number correctly then
the evaluator will nd your name corresponding to your roll number in their records.
But still, please consult to the higher authorities regarding your situation.

One can digg full marks out of 10 marks question(talking about english) if
there is
1. Correct formatting is perfect
2. No spell error
3. Fantabulous english writing with perfect grammar
4. Perfect word counts
5. And a good handwriting.
Average student generally scores between 6 to 8 marks depends on the
above criteria.

grammatical mistakes but my writing isnt great. I used simple words and

my school. So can i expect more than 8?
Also, Can i expect an easy Mathematics paper this time?
4ono

Yes, you can surely expect from 7.5 to 9. And, there is no way of determining

You have good writing skills, as i can see in your comment. Evaluations of writing
section of English is not only about the correct answers but also about the

So I guess, if you have done proper formatting then the least you can get is 5 marks

It would be great if you really complete and revise your syllabus and still have 2 to 3

To keep things fresh, you can plan a group study with your friends and try to explain
them what you know, explaining things to other makes your concept more clear and
also they last for long time in minde.
And do not forget to practice sample papers and previous years papers, they will
prove to be very useful. You can download the sample papers and previous years

Thanks for asking Kshitiz,

See, if you havent prepared anything yet then this will be a quite tough game to
score 85+ from the previous year papers, although if you are lucky enough that you
face same questions in your board exam as you will practice in previous year
question papers then yes it is possible to score great marks.
But, with no doubt, the best policy is to complete the syllabus rst and then go for
the sample and previous year papers.
As per your comment Kshitiz, its look like that you havent prepared anything
yet(Just a guess, please dont mind), so as the last option you can solve sample and
previous year question papers without having any doubt as much as you can but
with full focus, denitely, you can get good percentage, its not that much hard to
achieve.

Its your knowledge and quality of answer that is considered.

But please note that you keep your writing and answer formating neat and clean as
they may help you get few more marks or other way round.
And now for the improving part, here are some tips that may help you improve you
English. Well! they helped me, hope you too will get the same results.
Read English newspapers and other stuff like magazine, comics etc.
Watch English movies and listen to English songs. Use headphones for effective
results.
Find people with whom you can speak in English, but make sure they are of your
level, because you may not feel comfortable if the other person is better than you.
If there is no one with whom you can talk then speak to yourself. I use to talk to
myself in private moments like in bathroom etc.
Finally, always remember that to speak in English you have to think in English. Most
people rst think a sentence in Hindi and then translate it to English, and this is
where they are wrong.
there are multiple ways of saying a sentence, and you wont nd them untill you
keep on thinking in Hindi. So try to directly make sentences in English.
These tips are hard to follow but if you do then you will denitely improve.
