International Development Qualitative Research Associate

Overview
The American Institutes for Research (AIR) International Research and Evaluation
group strives to improve the quality of life in developing countries by using rigorous
research and evaluation to enhance education and social development. We conduct
impact evaluations on a wide range of topics including cash transfer programs,
early childhood nutrition programs, education interventions, health product
distribution programs, and agricultural interventions. We partner with locally based
researchers to provide context relevant policy analysis and to help build the
research capacity in developing countries. Our work contributes to policy and
financial decisions at the national and international level in countries around the
world.
AIR is seeking Qualitative Research Associates to join our International Research and
Evaluation group in Washington, D.C. The positions offer an opportunity to gain firsthand qualitative data management and research experience on exciting evaluations
of development programs. We are available to fill these positions anytime between
now and summer of 2017.
Responsibilities
Support efforts to collect, compile, validate, interpret, and analyze data and trends
using standard practices and techniques
Apply qualitative techniques and methods
Work on moderately complex assignments under indirect supervision
Communicate project support needs and requests to senior management and
clientele, provide administrative support where applicable
Conduct literature reviews and write sections of proposals and deliverables
Responsible for maintaining and checking the accuracy of data for assigned
projects
Support and organize content for focus groups
Utilize external resources to supplement, organize, and contribute to tasks and
projects
Participate in business development activities.
Develop interview protocols and conduct interviews
Qualifications
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science,
Psychology, History, Government, Public Policy or related fields;
Knowledge of Nvivo or Atlas TI or other qualitative software package is a plus ;
Outstanding academic record, excellent writing, and proficiency within a Microsoft
Windows environment is required ;
Familiarity with qualitative research methods and data analysis ;
Experience working in other countries is required;
Ability to work independently on detailed assignments;

Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and team


player ;
Willingness to travel as needed;
Fluency in any of the following languages preferred: Spanish, French, Arabic.
