Rilie Axtells Reflections on EDT 180

I found the going through this class I learned a lot of very basic information and tools to
help with daily life. I think that what could be changed is more of an approach to making a
website to create a service or teach a lesson. If that were combined with some of the screencast
and Power Point lessons I think that this course would really benefit students in the future.
Furthermore I think that showing students all that ASU offers, such as the full Microsoft Office
account linked to your ASU account would really help students.
I really enjoyed the activities revolving around the power points, the animations, and the
Google Drive. I felt like these really helped me understand and incorporate more technology into
my daily life. I made a power point for my work the week after the Power Point lesson and it
really helped to have a refresher on what I have the capability of doing. In the animation unit I
learned that there is a way to make a simple video and animation without being an artist and this
really stood out to me for being able to teach something in a fun and new light. I think that tool
used in a classroom setting would really help young students who have trouble focusing on long
and detailed lessons because it can have fun and goofy music. The Google Drive lesson really
helped me to understand more of what I can edit and do on my school projects and will definitely
have an effect on my grades on written assignments.
I think this course did well on targeting the course objectives. This course, to me, hit the
following three objectives the best. The first was to demonstrate the ability to use computer
applications for productivity, analysis, and problem solving. This was very much used when we
learned basic coding and the Google Drive activities. The second was the ability to use

computers in a classroom, business, and home setting and be able to discuss it. This was
accomplished by the animation, glogster, and the final portfolio website. The last was the ability
to create a personal web site. This was such a great idea for a final portfolio because it was
something that the student was able to put a lot of time on to make it beautiful or a small amount
of time to just know how to use all of the settings and inputs for making a website. I have made
websites before, but it was great to have a new program that had embed codes and other tools
that I was not knowledgeable in.
I fully agree that all of the objectives were met with this course and I am very pleased
with how this course turned out. I was very skeptical going in to the class that I knew everything
about computers and this course showed be that there is a lot more added to the tech we use
every day that is not always said in tutorials. Thank you for such a great class and I hope that this
class only gets better.
