Briefly state the main idea of this article
The main idea of this article is the academic
research that Philip Cohen took. They studied the variations and change on gender
inequality. Examples of his study include topics on womens employment rates, gender
gaps, segregated workplaces, and different ethnic groups employment rates. The patterns
of variation and change that he studied helped to understand how gender inequality
works.
List three important facts that the author uses to support the main idea
Philip Cohen
uses the fact, among U.S. born married women, only 6 percent had a surname that
differed from their husbands in 2004. Another fact is that men are losing out to women
in national elections and that is a big variation to understand the systemic features of our
society. The last fact he uses is that in economic standards men are considered higher
than women.

The information of China having a one-child policy is an
idea that has been previously presented to me in other reading. Philip Cohen talks about
the one child policy and the wanting for more male children than female.
