INSIDE THIS ISSUE
This newsletter is to provide specialized information on helpful resources that can be use within the classrooms
along with ways to make the school year smoother for all teachers and administration.
Each year as we start the new semester, it always seems to bring on unanswered questions, so this newsletter is set
into place by the school board to keep our staff informed.
Each month there will be a digital newsletter provided that will have helpful classroom tips, resources that can be
used for both the students and teachers, district update, upcoming software installments, administration notes,
along with much more!
This will be a great way for our school to stay involved and informed.

CYBER-BULLYING
Cyber-bullying is becoming more and
more command while your students are
at school within the classrooms. Cyberbullying is defined as the use of electronic
communication to bully a person, typically
by sending messages of an intimidating or
threatening nature. This can be done
anonymously which can make it hard to
track who is making the treats or even by
online friends. It is very important to get
informed about this matter as is has led to
suicide attempts and even deaths.
I have listed below some ways to get involved with your students and to stay
informed.

Inform your students about using


technology, they need to be informed
of the dangers that come along with
using social media, apps and or web
sites. REMEMBER if your students
know that your engaged in their
online activities they will be more
prone to think of their actions.

Get to know the web sites or apps


your students are use.

Be informed on how your students


are using their time while using electronic devices.

Ask your students about their online friends. REMEMBER Cyberbullying is done online and can be done by people your students consider
their friends.

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP
Staying safe while online is very important! Inform your students they should always
protect their self and their information while using the internet.
Remind your students they are to never invade anyones privacy while online.
Teach your students about protecting their technology. REMEMBER online there are
virus, inappropriate materials, and illegal software. In addition, inform your students
about copyright rules and how protection is important for all online related material
even if it belongs to others.

What is it that makes Edmodo
class a secure environment ?

Each Edmodo class group is


managed and controlled by
the teacher

Students need an access code


to join the class. If a student
shares the code outside the
class, the teacher can change
it, without affecting students
already joined in the group.

Students can only communicate to the whole class or to


the teacher private messages between students are
not possible.

Teachers can delete posts.

EDMODO
What is Edmodo ?
Edmodo is a web-based platform that provides a safe and easy way for your class to connect and collaborate, share content, and access homework, grades and school notices. It is
like Facebook but in a safe and controlled environment appropriate for school. There is
also a App that can be downloaded for quick access from anywhere, which as teachers, on
hand access is KEY!
How can Edmodo be used with students ?
Edmodo provides a secure environment where you can create a classroom group for your
students. In this virtual group you can:

Post class assignments and related links

Place digital resources on Edmodo for students to access or download.

Write short summaries of lessons for students who were absent from class.

Post homework information.

CLASS DOJO
What is ClassDojo?
ClassDojo is a free behavior management tool for the classroom. Each student has a profile
which is complete with their own avatar. The teachers can assign positive and negative points
(or 'dojos') throughout the lesson. The program can be operated by a teacher from their computer or tablet, and each time they award a point an (optional) sound plays to alert the class.
This information is then recorded on students' profiles so that it can be reviewed throughout
the year. Parents also have logins so that they can view their child's achievements from home.

What is Quizlet?
Quizlet is a free website providing learning tools for students, including flashcards, study
and game modes.
This can be a way to engage students in a class activity to prepare for an upcoming exam/
quiz.
Quizlet can also be used at home, the students can create their own Quizlet account or the
teacher can create a Quizlet account to which the information is provided to the student.

What is Copyright?
Copyright is the exclusive legal right, given to an originator or an assignee to print, publish,
perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material, and to authorize others to do the
same.
When is copyright permission needed ?
Obtaining copyright permission is the process of getting consent from a copyright owner to use
the owners material.
Why do you need to know what copyright is and how it applies to you?
Copyright can control what people can/cannot do with your work, youre in CONTROL!
How can you use the owners material that is copy written and it be illegal?
You can buy the material which is called licensing and it gives you permission to use the work.
Creative Commons can also be use, it allows users to share images, music, video and all other
things without breaking the laws of copyright.

Quotes are considered intellectual property, which is protected under


the law. This means that if you're not a quote's original author and you
want to SELL something with the quote on it, you have the author's written permission to use their words on your work. -copyright

Email Etiquette Tips For Educator's

5 helpful tips to remember:

Use Their Names Typing the


recipient name means that you are
paying attention and it matters.

Emote in Your Open emoting is


showing emotion. Emote at the opening so your recipient knows you really do care. Ex; Thank you or Your
right.

Short but Not Snippy Add white


space, if the email is to long, many
will not read. Make sure the essentials are included.

See Your Email Their Way


Always frame your email in terms of
what the recipient may feel and
think. Make the email welcoming and
used the word we when possible.

End Well End with a personal

message or an uplift. Always end on a


positive note about working together
or what they can expect from you and
or the situation at hand. Ex; if that
