Silver Nanoparticles

A nanoparticle is defined as a purposively-produced particle measuring from 1 to

100 nanometer and has possesses properties that are not evident on the bulk, nonnanometer, chemically-identical counterpart (Auffan et al., 2009). Nanoparticles are
used in industrial utilization of commercial products such as medicine, fabrics and
other materials. Nanoparticles are used in scientific investigations to furthermore
discover the properties and uses of it.
For a decade or two, nanoparticles not only have been studied and analyzed to
determine its use and application to the public, but have also been a constituent
part of the economical aspect of the society (Salata, O., 2004). Its industrial
production boomed at 1900s. However, nanoparticles have been evidently part of
humans history as seen in relics, antiques, and historical infrastructures (Horikoshi
& Serpone, 2013).
Of all metals, silver nanoparticles have been the most common used in consumer
products available publicly (National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network, 2007).
The particles have particular optical, thermal, and electrical properties, and are
contained in wide range of products such as photovoltaics, sensors, pastes and
fillers (Oldenburg, S.)
In addition, according to Prabhu and Poulose (2012), silver nanoparticles medical
properties are long been known. Such so, they have been utilized in the field of
medicine diagnosis, treatment and medical device coating to name a few
(Liangpeng et al., 2014). Like gold nanoparticles, silver nanoparticles have potential
antimicrobial and anti-angiogenic properties that can help cure certain amount of
diseases.
