Live Lesson Reflection
Social Studies (WWII)
The Live Lesson that Tim, Rebecca, and I taught to Taralyn was
a history lesson on World War II. The lesson focused mainly on the axis
and allied powers that were major factors in the way in which the war
concluded. The objectives we chose focused mainly on the students
ability to follow the material presented in the video, show important
facts about what she learned through notes in a graphic organizer, and
apply concepts that allowed her to differentiate, compare, and
contrast.
Through our small assessments on the Smartboard, along with
the Kahoot, Taralyn was able to show that she full understood the
lesson. She received 100% on each of the activities through critical
thinking skills that expanded the knowledge that she had just learned
about.
Taralyn did not know much about the allied and axis powers of
WWII when she started the lesson. She had many questions that she
wanted answered. When Tim presented the vocabulary to her, she took
notes on it and shook her head in agreement with the definitions as
they were said. Later when she was asked to explain why she knew

that the answer to the question was correct, she used academic
language from the lesson to explain her answer.
By using the academic language, Taralyn was able to prove that
although the content was foreign to begin with she took what she
learned from the lesson to provide a stronger explanation as to why
she was correct.
I think the movie that we showed was the perfect way to relay
the information to Taralyn initially, but I feel as though we couldve
added in some more content-based information on the Smartboard
slides. The definitions I believe were able to simply explain the axis
and allied powers, but I think we could have provided more information
to support her learning of the material overall.
If we had taught an ELL student who had a basic understanding
of the English language, there is a lot that he/she couldve understood
from the lesson that we taught to Taralyn because it was based off of
the SIOP model. There are a few things we could have changed
visually, such as the amount of words that were on the screen.
Otherwise, we couldve altered our instruction for the most part.
For example, we couldve paused the movie during certain parts
to explain the information further or just allow extra time for the
student to have written down the information. Another thing we
couldve done was given more time for the student to have answered
the Kahoot questions.

In conclusion I think the assignment went fairly well. Taralyn

learned a little bit about a topic that she hadnt known much about
before, and was able to successfully complete the assessments.
